Now here is something I never think about and probably you never think about. And that is a ‘leap second’, that amount of time that is added every so often to our time.
Leap seconds are necessary to prevent atomic clocks from speeding ahead of solar time. They are added at irregular intervals, effectively stretching atomic time by a heartbeat to make up for the irregular wobble in the Earth’s rotation.
Weird aint it? And to think, a simple thing like this is going up for debate at the United Nations. To either eliminate it completely or to continue on adding that ‘leap second’ when needed.

Jesse Jackson has been capitalizing on MLK’s memory from the second he was shot.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WACH) — Reverend Jesse Jackson visited Good Day Columbia Tuesday morning and sat down for an interview.
Rev. Jackson was at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
Rev. Jackson says he learned from Dr. King to keep pushing despite the odds.
“He challenged us to not let one kill the whole movement. So we move on and today we focus on something called poverty,” says Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Rev. Jackson says if Dr. King was alive he would have welcomed the Occupy Movement.
“He would embrace it. His last campaign was the poor peoples campaigns to go to Washington, occupy the mall and setup resurrection city,” says Rev. Jackson.

Small Is Still Beautiful
The trendy—and wrong—new argument that because big businesses innovate better, we should let them become monopolies.
Americans love capitalism, and we also like underdogs, so nothing tickles the culture’s fancy quite like a dynamic small business. But when we boost small firms, are we selling short the value of big ones? That’s what Michael Mandel, chief economic strategist of the Progressive Policy Institute, argues. In a memo published last December, he contends that it’s big companies, not scrappy startups, that are the real drivers of innovation in the modern economy, and that as a consequence the United States needs to ease up on antitrust enforcement. The argument’s gained partial assent everywhere from Mother Jones on the left to National Review on the right to the Economist in between. But while there’s certainly something to it, the purported policy conclusion that we need to start caring less about competition policy is dangerously misguided.
This was the same historic church Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett used on Sunday to rip Republicans. So much for that separation of church and state the left loves to whine about.
ATLANTA (AP) — Politics loomed large over the ceremonies held Monday, the federal holiday marking what would’ve been the 83rd birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., as black clergy, elected officials and others tied King’s legacy to the 2012 presidential election.
They urged African-Americans to re-elect President Barack Obama, and condemned voter identification laws they warned are meant to suppress black voter turnout in November.
At Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where King preached from 1960 until his death in 1968, the Rev. Raphael G. Warnock accused GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich of using racial stereotypes to fire up Republican voters. On the campaign trail, Gingrich has referred to President Barack Obama as “the food stamp president” and earlier this month suggested that African-Americans seek paychecks instead of public assistance.
Warnock called Gingrich’s comments “sickening and insulting.”
Warnock said some in the U.S. disrespect King’s legacy by “cutting off those for whom he died and the principles for which he fought,” pointing to voter ID laws that he called “unnecessary and unjustifiable.” He said such laws are an affront to the memory of the civil rights leader, who fought for equal access to the voting booth.”

Just to show that the Iranians have a sense of humor. Pink no less!
TEHRAN — For the American government, the crash of the RQ-170 drone in Iran was an embarrassment. For the Iranian government, it was a propaganda victory.
And for at least one company, according to state radio, it could be a windfall.
An Iranian firm, seeking to capitalize on the frenzy that followed the crash of the drone — and American calls to have it returned — is now producing miniaturized toy versions of the craft. Most of the toys, which come in several colors and are made of Iranian plastic, have already been snapped up by Iranian government organizations, according to the group that manufactures them.
At least one model — a pink one — has been reserved for President Obama.
“He said he wanted it back, and we will send him one,” said Reza Kioumarsi, the head of cultural production at the Ayeh Art group.
