I love stories like this!
The 104 residents of the village will cast their votes later this week on whether to alter the name.
“People are now willing to discuss changes to the spelling of the name,” Franz Meindl, the village’s mayor, said in a television interview. “But first all Fuckingers have to agree on whether want to change it or not.” For centuries the tiny village in northern Austria lived life in happy obscurity, but life changed when US troops, stationed in the area at the end of the Second World War, discovered it, and since then the village’s name has been a constant source of amusement for tourists and irritation for locals.
At least 13 £250 road signs bearing the village’s name have been stolen, and the sight of semi-naked women posing for photographs beside signs has become a common sight. One local business woman, exasperated with people stealing her sign has taken to adding another “g” in the hope it will deter thieves.
A brisk market in postcards and Christmas cards making liberal use of the name have also managed to spread its fame.
In an attempt to curtail the fun had at the village’s expense some locals want to readopt its 16th-Century spelling and replace the “ck” with a single or double “g”.
A convicted crack dealer who calls himself “Allah©, 5% Nation of Islam” is attempting to sue the superintendent of the Monroe state prison, claiming he was kidnapped and is being unlawfully imprisoned.
Although he refers to himself in court documents as “Allah©, 5% Nation of Islam” — with the copyright symbol and everything — his original name is Edwin Randal Coston. The 46-year-old was caught in 2001 by Seattle police with six grams of crack and $292 cash, along with scales and other dealer supplies. A lengthy string of prior convictions and the draconian “mandatory minimum” sentence requirements for crack combined to put Coston away for a whopping 21 years and 5 months.
Last week, Coston tried to file a lawsuit in Western Washington federal court claiming his civil rights are being violated by Scott Frakes, the Superintendent of the Monroe Correctional Complex. Coston attempted to petition for a writ of habeas corpus, a legal action that would require him to appear before a judge, and could ultimately lead to his release if the state lacks evidence. Given the seemingly cut and dry nature of his crime, it’s highly unlikely Colston will prevail in court, especially since he improperly filed the initial paperwork. He now has until May 5 to fix his errors and pay the $5 filing or his case will be automatically dismissed.
A spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections declined to comment on the pending litigation, and said Frakes wasn’t aware of the attempted lawsuit until he was contacted by the media. According to DOC records, Coston hasn’t exactly been a model prisoner. He has accrued 16 “serious infractions” since he was locked up in July of 2002, including an incident in which he allegedly assaulted a prison staff member.
Please spread the word like wildfire!
Sheila Jackson Lee in cooperation with Houston Metro Police, TSA, Houston Police Department and Harris County Precinct 7 Deputy Constables are now stating they can randomly search the bags of riders on the Houston Metro System. This is ILLEGAL according to the 4th Amendment of the United States Constitution Bill of Rights. Sheila Jackson Lee should step down immediately. This is an act of Treason towards the American People and our Bill of Rights. The people should demand her immediate resignation. YOU CAN NOT LEGALIZE TYRANNY!
Funny how Houston Metro has hidden the illegal “random bag checks” in a news release titled “METRO ROLLS OUT BICYCLES AND BUS RACKS FOR 2012 HOUSTON BIKE TO WORK DAY”
Who needs a pipeline when we have a pending “crackdown” on speculators?
Via E2 Wire:
The White House on Tuesday threatened to veto House legislation to extend transportation programs because it contains GOP language that mandates approval of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline.
The House is slated to vote Wednesday on the bill that keeps the transportation programs funded through September, the end of the fiscal year.
It would take permitting of the proposed Alberta-to-Texas pipeline away from the State Department and task the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission with approving the project.
“Because this bill circumvents a longstanding and proven process for determining whether cross-border pipelines are in the national interest by mandating the permitting of the Keystone XL pipeline before a new route has been submitted and assessed, the president’s senior advisers would recommend that he veto this legislation,” the White House said in a formal “statement of administration policy” Tuesday afternoon.
A victory! Now the other states can get on board with voter id…
If the liberal Ninth Circuit isn’t going to shoot down voter ID laws then the Obama administration has no chance of winning its lawsuits against South Carolina, Alabama and Texas.
PHOENIX (AP) — An appeals court upheld a requirement in a 2004 Arizona law that voters show identification before they can cast ballots, saying that there wasn’t evidence that the mandate disproportionately affected Latinos as the challengers had alleged.
A 12-member panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said in a ruling Tuesday that there was evidence Arizona has racially polarized voting and a history of discrimination against Latinos, but concluded no proof was offered to show that the ID requirement gave Latinos fewer opportunities to vote.
The court, however, found that the federal National Voter Registration Act trumps another section of the Arizona law that requires people to prove their citizenship in order to vote.
That federal law allows voters to fill out a mail-in voter registration card and swear they are citizens under penalty of perjury, but it doesn’t require them to show proof as Arizona’s law does.
(Daily Mail) — In his three years as U.S. president, Barack Obama has been dogged by claims he is not patriotic enough.
Last year he even had to publish his birth certificate to silence doubters who suggested he was not born an American.
Now it emerges that similar fears were expressed about his father, who was categorised with others as ‘anti-American and anti-white’ when he moved to the United States in 1959.
Mr Obama Snr had grown up in Kenya under British rule and aroused the fears of both colonial officers and American officials when he won a chance to study in Hawaii. The officials felt Kenyan students were ‘academically inferior’ with a ‘bad reputation’ for turning anti-American.
A memo from a British diplomat in Washington to Whitehall — released today by the National Archives in West London — sets out their concerns about the young Kenyans.
Dated September 1, 1959, it says: ‘I have discussed with the State Department. They are as disturbed about these developments as we are. They point out that Kenya students have a bad reputation over here for falling into the wrong hands and for becoming both anti-American and anti-white.’
In one of the Foreign Office files, the future president’s father appears on a list of Kenyan students as ‘OBAMA, Barack H’ — they shared the same name.
At the age of 23, he enrolled at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu to study economics with classmates including Ann Dunham, a 17-year-old white American from Kansas. The couple had a short marriage that led to the birth in 1961 of the future president, Barack Obama II.
Mr Obama Snr was among 100 or so Kenyan students brought to America by the African American Students Foundation.
U.S. and British officials were deeply suspicious of this outfit, observing that the AASF — though backed by singer Harry Belafonte and actor Sidney Poitier — had links to a Kenyan nationalist leader.
‘The motives behind this enterprise, therefore, seem more political than educational,’ warned a letter from the British Embassy in Washington.
It added: ‘The arrival here of these students, many of them of indifferent academic calibre and ill-prepared for the venture, is likely to give rise to difficult problems.’
Mr Obama Snr, who died in 1982, is not singled out for concern in any of the documents.
After leaving Hawaii he took a PhD in economics at Harvard and later became a senior economist with the Kenyan government.
In an April 3rd appearance on the left-wing Democracy Now TV show, Van Jones has offered his own behind-the-scenes take on an incident that made race a political issue three years before the Trayvon Martin case. As Jones describes it, the infamous “beer summit” on the White House lawn was a case where President Obama was “forced” into a meeting with a “racist” police officer.
In July 2009, while Jones was working at the White House, Sgt. James Crowley responded to a call of a possible break-in at a Cambridge, MA home. In reality, the person a neighbor thought might be a burglar was the homeowner, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, with another man helping him enter the house. [...]
Van Jones: The right wing and the law enforcement establishment brought the wrath of God down on the White House, I was there, and suddenly he’s forced to do a beer summit to sit eye to eye with a racist police officer . . . as a black man, even the most powerful man in the world, can not speak about race and if he does he’s then forced to sit humbly across the table from a racist police officer.
Dear America, Our Orwellian President Fails on Energy
by Sarah Palin
Last Friday, former energy trader and now Fox News host Eric Bolling and I hosted a Fox special called “Paying at the Pump,” which offered President Obama solutions to reduce prices at the pump and get our country on the path to real energy security.
A genuine “all of the above” approach to energy independence is, of course, a multifaceted plan. It includes conservation and sensible private sector investment in sound alternative energy, and it absolutely must involve unleashing our domestic energy production. We cannot ignore the need to drill, baby, drill; frack, baby, frack; and mine, baby, mine. Those who are concerned about the environment and our dangerous dependence on foreign oil should encourage the development of natural gas as a clean and plentiful bridge-fuel to a more renewable future. We have enough clean, green natural gas in America to be energy independent for many decades — whether we use it for natural gas cars or natural gas power plants. We also need to look at our oil refining capacity and our regulations there. We must cut the job-killing, anti-domestic energy regulations of Obama’s EPA and IRS which create such burdens and uncertainty. Finally, Eric pointed out that we must do something about the Wall Street speculators. I know this is a touchy issue, but Eric’s points are valid. Obama’s Federal Trade Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission appear to have no teeth in dealing with this because they haven’t cracked down on the president’s friends on Wall Street who are creating unnecessary oil market volatility. Eric suggested that we could reduce the problem of speculation by raising energy margin requirements.
In his press conference today, President Obama seems to have latched on to Eric’s idea of dealing with speculators. But the president proposed an outrageously expensive “fix,” claiming that he needs a boatload of tax dollars and bureaucrats to merely apply common sense to regulating oil trades and enforcing the authority the CFTC was already granted by the Dodd-Frank bill. This is ridiculous, and it’s not enough. Keep in mind that cracking down on speculation is only a small part of the solution. The key remedy is still drilling.
The left’s support for Palestinian terror is as strong today as it was when the first Qassam rocket was fired on this day 11 years ago.
(INN) — Hamas’ missile and rocket war on southern Israel is 11 years old today (Tuesday), 12,500 rockets later. More than 40 people have been killed, thousands have been wounded and property damage and economic losses has been immeasurable.
Since the beginning of 2012, terrorists from Hamas-controlled Gaza have attacked Israel with 269 rockets and missiles – a rate of more than two a day, according tothe IDF.
Mainstream media usually focus on Israeli military retaliations and occasional large-scale aerial bombings of terroroists, but the “Oslo War,” also known as the Second Intifada, has been carried out on a day-to-day basis for more then a decade, leaving a new generation growing up with the almost daily trauma of running to bomb shelters and suffering shock amid explosions, some of them harmless physically and some of them lethal.
IDF spokesmen pointed out Tuesday that Gaza is the same area where the government headed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon expelled 9,000 Jews and destroyed their homes in June 2005 as part of his “Disengagement” program. Farm facilities were turned over to the Palestinian Authority, which promptly turned most of them into training grounds for terrorist militias, while the IDF staged a total withdrawal from the area.
