Vietnam Hero Receives Medal of Honor Posthumously

In battle, there is no greater act of valor than to lay down your life so others may live. On Wednesday at the White House, a soldier was honored for the sacrifice made a long time ago. CBS News correspondent David Martin tells his story.

In a modest Pennsylvania neighborhood, there’s a shrine to America’s newest hero: Leslie Sabo, killed 42 years ago in the Vietnam War. It has been kept all these years by Sabo’s widow, Rose. She was 20 and he was 21.

“We had 31 days together,” she tells Martin.

“31 days.”

“And then he left for Vietnam,” Rose said.

In May of 1970, Bravo Company crossed from Vietnam into Cambodia to disrupt the enemy’s sanctuaries and ran smack into an ambush. Eight soldiers, including Leslie Sabo, were killed.

“All they told me was that he had been killed by enemy fire. That’s all I knew,” said Rose.

But decades later, a researcher found reports of the battle buried in the stacks at the National Archives. One document was an affidavit signed by Teb Stocks. He read it Wednesday for the first time since 1970.

Specialist Sabo received the Medal of Honor posthumously on May 16, 2012 from President Obama for his heroic actions in combat on May 10, 1970, while serving as a rifleman in Company B, 3d Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in Se San, Cambodia. On that day, when he and his platoon were ambushed by a large enemy force, Specialist Sabo immediately charged the enemy position, killing several enemy soldiers. He then assaulted an enemy flanking force, successfully drawing their fire away from friendly soldiers and ultimately forcing the enemy to retreat. While securing a re-supply of ammunition, an enemy grenade landed nearby. Specialist Sabo picked it up, threw it, and shielded a wounded comrade with his own body – absorbing the brunt of the blast and saving his comrade’s life. Although wounded by the grenade blast, he continued to charge the enemy’s bunker. After receiving several serious wounds from automatic weapons fire, he crawled towards the enemy emplacement and, when in position, threw a grenade into the bunker. The resulting explosion silenced the enemy fire, but also ended Specialist Sabo’s life. His indomitable courage and complete disregard for his own safety saved the lives of many of his platoon members.

Unhinged Joe Biden yells and screams about the evil rich – They don’t get us!

Fire Andrea Mitchell

The Obama regime is imploding. Vice President Joe Biden has always been a loony toons and a dimwit. But now he’e becoming even more unhinged. Biden went on a rant about those evil rich to a tepid crowd in Ohio. Biden whined about how those evil rich “just don’t get us.” Ironic considering Biden is such a cheapskate when it comes to charity, and the Messiah Obama is worth upwards of $10 million.

Useless Nations want to tax the rich to pay the poor! Yes, a neat take on the Robin Hood tax. Doubt if it will pass.

(CNSNews.com) — Ahead of the G8 summit in Camp David on Friday, a group of United Nations human rights “experts” are throwing their weight behind a longstanding campaign for a so-called “Robin Hood tax” on international financial transactions.

In a statement issued in Geneva — home to the U.N.’s human rights apparatus — the five called the financial transaction tax (FTT) a way “to offset the costs of the enduring economic, financial, fuel, climate and food crises, and to protect basic human rights.”

It would provide “a pragmatic tool for providing the means for governments to protect and fulfill the human rights of their people,” they said.

“The FTT is an opportunity for governments to move beyond rhetoric in their commitments to sustainable development, and to give flesh to their noble pronouncements of solidarity,” said one of the five, Virginia Dandan, whose title is “independent expert on human rights and international solidarity.”

ICE Agents Say Obama’s Claim of Fewer Illegals are Bogus

The Lid

According to Barack Obama’s spin machine the barrage of people sneaking into the U.S. from across the Mexican border has slowed down and illegals are actually leaving the country.  According to some border patrol agents, the tide hasn’t slowed its just that their hands have been tied so there are fewer illegals arrested.  To back up the the border agents financial data indicates that there is more money being transferred from immigrants to Mexico than in previous years.

Federal law enforcement officials interviewed by TheWashington Examiner say security is being compromised as the government seeks to keep a lid on the border as a campaign issue during the presidential election cycle. Department of Homeland Security’s Border Patrol agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are being told not to make arrests of noncriminal illegal immigrants, and not to patrol areas of high traffic along the roughly 2,000-mile Southwest border.

A Border Patrol official working along the Texas border said administration officials are deliberately failing to document what is actually happening on the border. “In many cases my supervisors make it clear that they don’t want increased apprehension numbers, which means no arrests,” he said.

So someone tell our congress why aiding and abetting the jihadist terrorists in Syria (the so called rebels) is not in our best interest and is a very damn bad idea!

(AINA) — Armed jihadist seized control of Qastal al-Burg village on Thursday, May 10, and ordered its 10 Christian families to leave, according to a report published by UPI on its Arabic language website.

A resident of the village, who did not wish to be identified, said “armed jihadist (expiatory) group came to the village and ordered us to leave our homes empty handed.” The armed group, he further stated, “have exercised their control over all the houses, and occupied the church and made it as their command control center.”

Qastal al-Burg village is in the province of Hama and is 48 kilometers northwest of Hama.

Romney: Imagine if Uncle Sam designed a cell phone …

Enterprise Blog

Liberal pundits like Jonathan Cohn are moaning and groaning about Mitt Romney’s economic speech in Iowa yesterday because a) he seemed to blame the sickly recovery on high debt levels, and b) he thinks the stimulus was a failure.

He are the two parts in question that liberals dislike:

President Obama is an old-school liberal whose first instinct is to see free enterprise as the villain and government as the hero. America counted on President Obama to rescue the economy, tame the deficit and help create jobs. Instead, he bailed out the public sector, gave billions of dollars to the companies of his friends and added almost as much debt as all the prior presidents combined. The consequence is that we are enduring the most tepid recovery in modern history. …

President Obama started out with a near trillion-dollar stimulus package – the biggest, most careless one-time expenditure by the federal government in history. And remember this: The stimulus wasn’t just wasted – it was borrowed and wasted. We still owe the money, we’re still paying interest on it and it’ll be that way long after this presidency ends.

A few thoughts:

1. Debt might well be retarding growth. Economists Carmen Reinhart, Vincent R. Reinhart, and Kenneth Rogoff  just put out a new study looking at the economic impact of high debt levels: “We identify 26 episodes of public debt overhang–where debt to GDP ratios exceed 90% of GDP–since 1800. We find that in 23 of these 26 episodes, individual countries experienced lower growth than the average of other years. Across all 26 episodes, growth is lower by an average of 1.2%.” The economists also recommend not waiting until bond markets freak out before acting.

MAYO CLINIC REMOVES CLITORECTOMY SUPPORTER

Atlas Shrugs

Sharia’s misogyny defeated!

Hatem Elhagaly (AKA “Hatem Al Haj”), a medical doctor and fellow at the AmericanAcademy of Pediatrics, ignores FGM’s detrimental effects on women’s health, and instead argues that it is ‘an honor’ for women. He justifies this position by referring repeatedly to the words of classical Islamic scholars from the four schools of mainstream Sunni Islamic thought, all of which attest to FGM’s legitimacy under Islam. He also refers to the words of the Prophet Muhammad himself, who reportedly counselled people in his day on how to perform FGM in a way that would be “more beautiful to behold and better for [the woman's] husband.” (more here)

Tha Mayo Clinic removed Dr. Elhagaly. They sent this email:

From: Public Affairs <publicaffairs@mayo.edu>

Subject: RE: Dr. Hatem Elhagaly

Dr. Elhagaly is no longer employed or caring for patients at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. We are working with his patients to transition their care to another physician. Because this is a personnel issue, we cannot comment further on Dr. Elhagaly’s employment status.

Female circumcision in children, referred to as female genital mutilation in U.S. legal statutes, is a felony-level child abuse crime. Mayo Clinic strongly opposes the procedure and it has never been performed at any Mayo Clinic facility.

Atlas reader CGW vigorously pursued signatures to a petition seeking removal of Hatem Elhagaly (AKA “Hatem Al Haj”). Kudos to him for his hardwork. He dropped that petition in every post. Here is the text of the petition.

If there’s one thing those who report on others dislike more than anything, it’s the lens of scrutiny being turned on them. That explains Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward’s reaction to Jeff Himmelman’s new book “Yours in Truth: A Personal Portrait of Ben Bradlee.” While Woodward isn’t the subject of the book, he is the focus of a couple of controversial revelations from it.

This isn’t the first time Woodward has faced criticism. Christopher Hitchens, who once called Woodward “the stenographer to the stars,” was not a fan of what he called Woodward’s “hollow core of ‘access’ journalism,” which involves painting figures in a favorable light in return for interviews with them and information about their lives. And some have questioned Woodward’s use of anonymous sources and unusual tactics (his interviews with former CIA Director William Casey while Casey was in and out of a coma are prime examples of how Woodward has often pushed the bounds of credulity).

One revelation from Himmelman’s book is that Ben Bradlee, the legendary executive editor of The Post, had personal doubts about the accuracy of some of the more dramatic, some might say “theatrical,” aspects of Woodward’s interactions with “Deep Throat” in his and Carl Bernstein’s Watergate coverage. According to Himmelman, Bradlee didn’t — and still doesn’t — doubt the validity of the basic narrative, just the cinematic way in which it was conveyed. Woodward had a very “cloak and dagger” relationship with Deep Throat that famously involved clandestine-esque meetings in parking garages and little signals that indicated meetings would happen. It was the stuff of Hollywood movies.

Again, Bradlee doesn’t question the fundamentals Woodward got from Deep Throat, just the theatrics. And considering that as executive editor Bradlee’s reputation was as much on the line as Woodward’s or Bernstein’s, it’s not surprising that Woodward’s accounts of his meetings with Deep Throat would give Bradlee pause.

Feds raid Florida home, Muslim linked to 9/11 hijacker arrested

Riverview, Florida — A man whose name has come up in connection with the 9/11 terrorist attacks is now facing criminal charges for alleged tax fraud.

Federal agents raided the Riverview home of Osama Mustafa Tuesday morning. He’s accused of defrauding the U.S. government and financial institutions out of millions of dollars, filing false tax returns, and committing money laundering.

More than 50 agents seized a number of Mustafa’s vehicles, including a Silver Porsche.

Two other suspects, including a Virginia man, are listed as co-conspirators in the indictment. The operation was conducted by the FBI, the Secret Service, ICE, U.S. Marshals, IRS and U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Mustafa appeared in Federal Court late Tuesday afternoon, and was booked into the Pinellas County Jail where he’s being held on $50,000 bond.

He was previously investigated after allegedly hiring one of the 9/11 hijackers to work at his San Diego gas station.

Yet another Florida link to 9/11? Just how many are there that the public wasn’t made aware of? September of last year we told you about this, FBI found direct ties between 9/11 hijackers and Saudis living in Florida; Congress kept in dark

Did the White House Cut a Backroom Deal with Drug Companies to Get Obamacare Passed?

House committee probing possible arrangement to get health care law passed. Rep. Michael Burgess weighs in on ‘America’s Newsroom’.

=======================================================================

GOP probe uncovers deal between Obama and drug companies
By Philip Klein Senior Editorial Writer, Washington Examiner

Three years ago, President Obama cut a secret deal with pharmaceutical company lobbyists to secure the industry’s support for his national health care law. Despite Obama’s promises during his campaign to run a transparent administration, the deal has been shrouded in mystery ever since. But internal emails obtained by House Republicans now provide evidence that a deal was struck and GOP investigators are promising to release more details in the coming weeks.

“What the hell?” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, who is now Obama’s campaign manager, complained to a lobbyist for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) in January 15, 2010 email. “This wasn’t part of our deal.”

This reference to “our deal” came two months before the final passage of Obamacare in an email with the subject line, “FW: TAUZIN EMAIL.” At the time, Billy Tauzin was president and CEO of PhRMA.

Military Detention Law Blocked by New York Judge
A federal judge temporarily blocked enforcement of a part of the National Defense Authorization Act that opponents claim could subject them to indefinite military detention for activities including news reporting and political activism.
U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest in Manhattan today ruled in favor of a group of writers and activists who sued President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and the Defense Department, claiming a provision of the act, signed into law Dec. 31, puts them in fear that they could be arrested and held by U.S. armed forces.

“Yes, we ARE at war with Islam,” say 73% of American voters

In other words, most American voters disagree with Barack Hussein Obama who said, “We are not—and never will be—at war with Islam. It was not a religion that attacked us that September day. It was al-Qaeda.”

WND  Rasmussen Reports found that 73% of mainstream U.S. voters believe there is a conflict in the world between Western civilization and Islamic nations, and a plurality (49%) believe most of the world’s Muslims view America as an enemy. The numbers became even more significant when separating mainstream U.S. voters from a group Rasmussen calls the “political class.” Only half of Rasmussen’s “political class” acknowledges a global conflict, and 62 percent reject the idea that Muslims view the U.S. as an enemy.

A series of polls released over the last few weeks shows most Americans believe a global conflict is raging between Islam and the West.

Specifically, Rasmussen Reports polls found that 63 percent of likely U.S. voters believe a battle is brewing, while only 18 percent deny the divide.

Furthermore, when asked about many Western nations’ support of the populist uprisings known as “the Arab Spring,” only 26 percent of voters think the United States should do more to encourage the growth of democracy in the Islamic world, while 58 percent say the United States should leave things alone.

The message from national Republicans in 2010 was “Fire Nancy Pelosi.”

It’s now “Stop Nancy Now” from returning as speaker of the House.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) launched StopNancyNow.com this week, The Daily Caller has learned. NRCC spokesman Gerrit Lansing said the site went live on Monday.

At this point, the website focuses on the special Arizona election slated for June to replace Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords, who is resigning from Congress as she recovers from an assassination attempt that nearly killed her in 2011.

Facing off in the election is Giffords aide Ron Barber, a Democrat, and Iraq War veteran Jesse Kelly, a Republican.

All kneel before our queen!

(NewsOK) — President Obama famously claimed to know more about policy than his policy directors, but he didn’t mention First Lady Michelle Obama, who comprises one half of a “stealth co-presidency” according to a new book on the Obamas.

Michelle Obama practically vetoed the choice of Hillary Clinton serving as vice president. “Do you really want Bill and Hillary just down the hall from you in the White House?” she asked Barack Obama, according to Edward Klein’s The Amateur, who says that a New York State Democratic Party official told him “‘Michelle certainly played a role’ in selecting Joe Biden.”

Justice Sonia Sotomayor owes a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Obama, as well. “The First Lady thought Sotomayor had all those . . . qualities her husband was looking for in an appointee,” Klein quotes “a confidant” as saying. “Barack has always listened to what she has to say.”

Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was almost forced out of his job by the first lady after Obama sustained the embarrassment of campaigning for a doomed Martha Coakley in Massachusetts, whose loss to Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., cost the Democrats their super-majority in the Senate.

“Michelle told the president that he needed a new team of advisers, starting with Rahm Emanuel,” Klein writes. “‘She feels as if our rudder isn’t set right,’ the president told his aides. When Emanuel heard that, he strode into the Oval Office and submitted his resignation. It was turned down. But by then Emanuel’s days were numbered.”
