Can Pole Dancing Get Recognized As An Olympic Sport?

Okay, this is odd but then the entire olympics thing is getting weirder year by year! Why not have pole dancing in the olympics? Heck, I might even change the channels and actually watch the olympics if they had pole dancing!

Pole dancers want to shred the strip club connotations and go for the gold.

Seven years ago, KT Coates could hardly get a local gym to take her seriously when she propositioned the idea of teaching pole dancing classes for exercise. Today, she and a small but dedicated team of pole sports enthusiasts are campaigning to get the sport into the Olympics.

“I went to so many gyms and they said I was disgusting. They shut the door on my face,” she recalled.

Coates got involved in pole dancing on a whim — as a struggling actress and dancer in the U.K. in 2003, a friend brought her along to try pole dancing, and she caught on quickly, immediately recognizing that the activity was closer to a sport than it was to stripping. From there, she went from gym to gym, until one pioneering studio in her local Hertfordshire agreed to let her teach a class. From there, the classes expanded to other gyms and even some gym chains, and Coates eventually opened her own studio, called Vertical Dance.

Then came YouTube.

In 2006, Coates’ husband posted a video in which Coates performs a five-minute pole dancing routine, starting with music from Swan Lake and ending with David Guetta’s club hit “Love Don’t Let Me Go.” The video has 3.5 million views — not a paltry number for a clip from 2006. Coates, who now makes a living teaching pole dancing instructors looking to get certified, said the now-outdated video now makes her cringe, as the sport’s top competitors are, today, more impressive.

Though she doesn’t like to watch it anymore, she said the video was essential in garnering interest and appreciation for the sport.

Finally, the Freeh report has been released — you know, the independent, months-long, damning inquiry into the Jerry Sandusky case we’ve all been waiting for?

Yeah, yeah, Sandusky’s in prison.

But the report is important because it really sticks it to Penn State’s big four – President Graham B. Spanier, Senior Vice President-Finance Gary C. Schultz, Athletic Director Timothy M. Curley and Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno — for not reporting Sandusky’s actions:

The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized. Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims until after Sandusky’s arrest.

Need more info? The Daily Beast has a rundown on the potential legal implications of the report; what the fallout looks like for the Penn State football program; and whether proven or alleged victims might come forward now that the report has been made public.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Department of Homeland Security will soon be using a laser at airports that can detect everything about you from over 160-feet away.
Gizmodo reports a scanner that could read people at the molecular level has been invented. This laser-based scanner – which can be used 164-feet away — could read everything from a person’s adrenaline levels, to traces of gun powder on a person’s clothes, to illegal substances — and it can all be done without a physical search. It also could be used on multiple people at a time, eliminating random searches at airports.
The laser-based scanner is expected to be used in airports as soon as 2013, Gizmodo reports.

Dutch Jewish author Berthe Meijer, whose life intersected with Anne Frank’s, has died. She was 74.

Her husband, Gary Goldschneider, said Wednesday that Meijer died of cancer July 10.

Before the war, Meijer lived on the same Amsterdam street in a Jewish neighborhood where Frank attended a Montessori school. Their families both attempted to hide during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, but were caught and deported. They were imprisoned in Bergen-Belsen at the same time, though Meijer was years younger. While Frank died just two weeks before the camp was liberated in 1945, Meijer survived.

In 2010, Meijer published a memoir titled “Life After Anne Frank,” with the intention of comparing her own post-war fortunes as perhaps resembling what might have happened to Frank, had she lived. Meijer’s post-war life was far from easy. She had some success as a writer, but her emotional scars never healed.

For better or worse, Meijer’s decision to compare herself to Frank — whose diary has become the most-read document to emerge from the Holocaust — overshadowed the rest of Meijer’s memoir, at least initially. Meijer endured withering skepticism over a claim in the book that Frank entertained her and other Dutch-speaking children with fairytales while in the camp.

SAILING the seven seas is old hat. The latest trick is to glide them. Sea gliders are small unmanned vessels which are now cruising the briny by the hundred. They use a minuscule amount of power, so they can stay out for months. And, being submarines, they are rarely troubled by the vicissitudes of weather at the surface. Their only known enemies are sharks (several have come back covered in tooth marks) and fishing nets.

Sea gliders are propelled by buoyancy engines. These are devices that pump oil in and out of an external bladder which, because it deflates when it is empty, means that the craft’s density changes as well. This causes the glider to ascend or sink accordingly, but because it has wings some of that vertical force is translated into horizontal movement. Such movement is slow (the top speed of most gliders is about half a knot), but the process is extremely efficient. That means gliders can be sent on long missions. In 2009, for example, a glider called Scarlet Knight, operated by Rutgers University, in New Jersey, crossed the Atlantic on a single battery charge, though it took seven months to do so.

The House voted today to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care law, sending yet another rebuke to the president after the Supreme Court upheld the law last month.

It was the 33rd vote to kill all or part of the law, according to House GOP leaders. But the Senate is unlikely to take up the issue, relegating the hours of floor debate to little more than political posturing.

Nonetheless, if the Republican leaders’ goal was to make life difficult for some Democrats, they succeeded.

The bill passed 244-185, with 5 Democrats voting for the measure. No Republicans voted against the repeal.

Democratic Reps. Dan Boren (Okla.), Mike Ross (Ark.) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.) supported the repeal measure again, and were joined by Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell (N.C.), who has previously voted against repeal measures. Rep. Jim Matheson (Utah) also voted for the repeal.

McIntyre, Kissell and Matheson face tough re-election races in conservative-leaning districts, while Boren and Ross are retiring.

Members from both sides of the aisle took to the floor to give grandiose speeches, with Republicans reproaching the controversial law as a government overreach and Democrats vigorously defending it, apparently buoyed by the recent Supreme Court decision upholding the law.

Business Owner to Congress: Health Care Law is a ‘Dream Killer’

Even with the Supreme Court having reached its decision to uphold President Obama’s health care law, small businesses are facing a climate of great uncertainty. The employer mandate included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires business owners to make tough decisions for which there are no good choices.

Mary Miller, CEO of JANCOA Janitorial Services, Inc., a 40-year-old family-owned business headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, called these decisions a “devil’s choice” in her July 10 testimony at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing titled Examining the Impact of ObamaCare on Job Creators and the Economy. [Miller did a video interview with us following her testimony. Check it out above.]

JANCOA offers its 320 full-time employees a limited-benefit plan and covers 85% of the premium. However, most of the employees elect not to enroll, choosing instead to take home more of their compensation in the form of wages. The employer and individual mandates scheduled to take effect in 2014 will eliminate choice.

We will no longer have the option of offering these types of plans, and our employees will no longer have the freedom to choose how to spend their wages. What is even worse, the law will force us to choose between several impossible options in order to remain in business and will jeopardize our ability to offer the types of jobs our employees value.

What are these “impossible options” facing Miller? Her company will either have to pay nearly $4,400 per employee for coverage that satisfies the mandate at a cost of nearly $1.4 million per year, stop offering coverage and pay $2,000 per full-time employee in penalties at a cost of $640,000, or transition its staff to part-time status in order to mitigate the penalties.

American Flag Deemed Offensive in Massachusetts Housing Complex

Residents of a Massachusetts public housing complex are outraged that the town’s housing agency has banned the display of U.S. flags outside their homes.

The Wrentham Housing Authority notified residents of the policy through a letter taped to their doors Wednesday.

The unsigned letter says the move was made after a tenant complained to the state Department of Housing and Community Development over the Fourth of July holiday.

Barbara Marshall kept a U.S. flag flying outside Wednesday even after the letter was delivered and tells The Sun Chronicle she has no intention of removing it.

The 82-year-old Marshall, whose brother took part in the D-Day invasion of France, says she was so upset about the letter she had to lie down.

No one at the housing authority would comment.

Obama Sinks to Historic Lows Among Blue-Collar Men

The new Quinnipiac University and ABC/Washington Post national surveys out this week converge on one key conclusion: as the election nears, President Obama is sinking to historic lows among the group most consistently hostile to him.

Throughout his career on the national stage, Obama has struggled among white men without a college education. But in these latest surveys, he has fallen to a level of support among them lower than any Democratic nominee has attracted in any election since 1980, according to an upcoming National Journal analysis of exit polls from presidential elections.

Though pollsters at each organization caution that the margins of error are substantial when looking at subgroups such as this, each poll shows erosion within that margin of error for Obama with these working-class white men. The new Quinnipiac poll shows Obama attracting just 29 percent of non-college white men, down from 32 percent in their most recent national survey in April, according to figures provided by Douglas Schwartz, April Radocchio and Ralph Hansen of Quinnipiac. The ABC/Washington Post survey found Obama drawing just 28 percent of non-college white men, down from 34 percent in their May survey, according to figures provided by ABC Pollster Gary Langer. Romney drew 56 percent of the non-college white men in Quinnipiac and 65 percent in the ABC/Washington Post survey.

No one expects Obama to win these blue-collar men, who are now among the most reliably Republican segments of the electorate. But even so, these numbers, if sustained through Election Day, would represent a modern nadir for Democrats. Since 1980, the worst performance for any Democratic nominee among these working-class white men was the 31 percent Walter Mondale managed against Ronald Reagan in 1984; the meager 39 percent Obama drew in 2008 was actually the party’s best showing over that period. These new surveys show Obama that these non-college white men represent Obama’s largest source of decline in the white electorate since 2008.

Still, Obama is also facing weak numbers among working-class white women. The Quinnipiac Poll shows him drawing just 37 percent of white women without a college education, and the ABC/Post poll puts him at 40 percent with those women. In each poll that’s up five percentage points from his showing in the most recent national survey, a change within the margin of error. But even so, Obama’s performance in the new polls shows the continued Democratic struggles with those “waitress moms” that Bill Clinton and then Al Gore targeted successfully (Clinton won 48 percent of their vote in 1996 and Gore 45 percent in 2000). Obama appears on track to do no better, and possibly slightly worse, than the modest 41 percent he won with those women in 2008, which was itself essentially unchanged from John Kerry’s weak 40 percent showing in 2004.

Unions really do want to destroy America (why they love obama).

Newsbusters:

The AFL-CIO has not been bashful about its support for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. And the union giant recently posted an article by Tula Connell hyping a booklet entitled “Economics 101 for the 99%.” The booklet was produced for the Occupiers by a socialist group called the Center for Popular Economics.

Connell wrote that the booklet will clarify “such concepts as the role of the Federal Reserve and the so-called austerity war.” The booklet is intended to “to help the ‘99%’ make a coherent argument for why we need to change our economic course.”

A glance through the booklet reveals standard leftist pap about the evils of capitalism and how the glories of socialism will make the world a better place. Strangely missing are examples of socialism’s actual track record. Greece, Spain and Italy appear nowhere in the booklet.

(It does ask “why, if we are only to have a life expectancy equal to Portugal’s, we should spend over $4,000 more per person.” The simple answer: Portugal’s universal health care system is part of an unsustainable welfare state that necessitated a $100+ billion bailout by the EU two years ago. As a result, Portugal’s healthcare fees have doubled recently – not an easy pill to swallow in a nation where the average annual salary is $16,400 and income is expected to fall 3.25% in 2012. Other fun Portuguese facts: unemployment is 14%, a third of public hospitals are insolvent and, according to the Portuguese Society of Cardiology “1 in 4 Portuguese runs a high risk of dying of a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years, but only 30% of those at risk take adequate medication.)

The booklet explicitly promotes socialism to replace capitalism, and blames what it terms the “neoliberal paradigm” for the 2008 financial melt down. “Neoliberalism” is described as “tax cuts, attacks on social welfare programs, privatization, deregulation, ‘free’ trade, and anti-worker/union measures.” In short, neoliberalism is anything that moves power and resources away from the central government.

As Islamists Pledge to Wipe Out Christianity, Gov’t Study Says Not to Worry

Why Mitt Romney’s NAACP Speech Got A Standing Ovation

###

Woe is Canada!

OTTAWA — There is new trouble for the RCMP over a manual that tries to wash out terms like “Islamist” and “jihad” from officers’ mouths when they talk about terrorism.

“Distorted and inflammatory linkages between Islam and terrorism can serve to convince Muslims — both in the West and in the larger Islamic world — that the West is, in fact, their enemy,” the manual says.

That doesn’t impress anti-terror expert David Harris, of Insignis Strategic Research.

“This is, if I may be blunt, an Islamist’s wet dream,” Harris said. “It misstates fundamentally the established history, and undermines warnings of many moderate Muslims about jihad and its possibilities.”

The manual, called Words Make Worlds, dates back to 2009 and also tells Mounties not to fear organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood, despite its terrorist links.

American anti-terror expert Brian Michael Jenkins says cultural sensitivity is often appropriate, but the RAND Corporation advisor adds that terms the RCMP dislikes are needed to analyze security threats.

“The term ‘jihad’ is on the banner of al-Qaida,” says Jenkins. “If they use it, I can use it.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has openly called “Islamicism” a threat to Canada, while Public Safety Canada’s counter-terrorism strategy refers to “Islamist extremism.”

Still, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said he doesn’t consider the RCMP’s soft language on terror a concession to Islam.

“I think it’s a matter of moving sensitively in what is an area where we need the co-operation of these groups,” he said in Winnipeg.

Harry Reid lying like an asshole! And liberals will eat this up!

WaPo’s fact-checker pointed out this week that Romney pays roughly $3 million per year in taxes and donates $3 million to charity.

MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID (D., NEV.): His father, George Romney, set the precedent that people running for president would file their tax returns, let everybody look at them. But Mitt Romney can’t do that because he’s basically paid no taxes in the prior 12 years.

Now this is the freaking ass time for America to get the hell out of Afghanistan for all time! And not send one more damn penny to that asshole country!

(Telegraph) — Afghan President Hamid Karzai called on Thursday on Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar to give up fighting his US-backed government in return for the chance to run for president of the war-torn nation.

Mullah Omar, the one-eyed Taliban leader who has been on run since the United States toppled his regime in late 2001, is one of the world’s most wanted men and is leading a Taliban insurgency aimed at ousting Karzai.

Karzai has repeatedly called on Omar and other insurgents fighting against his administration to renounce violence and accept peaceful reintegration.

“I repeat my call on all Afghans, those who aren’t the puppets of others and have (only) issues with us at home — they’re welcome for any talks,” he told a news conference.

“Mullah Mohammad Omar can come inside Afghanistan anywhere he wants to. He can open political office for himself but he should leave the gun.

Funny and WTF at the same time!!!

Raymond Ibrahim:

Not only did the original “underwear bomber” Abdullah Hassan al-Asiri hide explosives in his rectum to assassinate Saudi Prince Muhammad bin Nayef — they met in 2009 after the 22-year-old holy warrior “feigned repentance for his jihadi views” — but al-Asiri apparently had fellow jihadis repeatedly sodomize him to “widen” his anus in order to accommodate the explosives — all in accordance with the fatwas [religious edicts] of Islamic clerics.

A 2010 Arabic news video that is making the rounds on the Internet gives the details. Apparently a cleric, one Abu al-Dema al-Qasab, informed jihadis of an “innovative and unprecedented way to execute martyrdom operations: place explosive capsules in your anus. However, to undertake this jihadi approach you must agree to be sodomized for a while to widen your anus so it can hold the explosives.”

Others inquired further by asking for formal fatwas. Citing his desire for “martyrdom and the virgins of paradise,” one jihadi, (possibly al-Asiri himself) asked another sheikh, “Is it permissible for me to let one of the jihadi brothers sodomize me to widen my anus if the intention is good?”

After praising Allah, the sheikh’s fatwa began by declaring that sodomy is forbidden in Islam,

However, jihad comes first, for it is the pinnacle of Islam, and if the pinnacle of Islam can only be achieved through sodomy, then there is no wrong in it. For the overarching rule of [Islamic] jurisprudence asserts that “necessity makes permissible the prohibited.” And if obligatory matters can only be achieved by performing the prohibited, then it becomes obligatory to perform the prohibited, and there is no greater duty than jihad. After he sodomizes you, you must ask Allah for forgiveness and praise him all the more. And know that Allah will reward the jihadis on the Day of Resurrection, according to their intentions — and your intention, Allah willing, is for the victory of Islam, and we ask that Allah accept it of you.

Two important and complementary points emerge from this view: 1) that jihad is the “pinnacle” of Islam — for it makes Islam supreme (based on a hadith, the formerly oral history of the life of Muhammad); and 2) that “necessity makes permissible the prohibited.” These axioms are not limited to modern day fatwas, but in fact, were crystallized centuries and ago agreed to by the ulema [Islam's leading religious scholars]. The result is that — because making Islam supreme through jihad is the greatest priority — anything and everything that is otherwise banned becomes permissible. All that comes to matter is one’s intention, or niyya.

This is how damn desperate all the liberals, the obama idiots, and obama is….to again move the line of civility out of the way!

Politico 44:

Mitt Romney either lied in federal filings that show he worked at Bain Capital through 2002 and could be guilty of a felony, or has lied to the American people in saying he left the company in 1999, the Obama campaign is arguing in light of news reports on the firm’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“This is serious business,” said Bob Bauer, the Obama campaign’s counsel, in a conference call for reporters coming after the Boston Globe published a story Thursday that calls into question the timeline of Romney’s involvement of the firm that the Republican candidate has been promulgating for years.

Deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter laid out the issue as the Obama team sees it: “Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony. Or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investments” including layoffs and the outsourcing of jobs.

If the latter is true, she said, it’s a “real character and trust issue” that voters should be aware of as they decide who to vote for in the presidential election. If Romney was still at Bain through 2002, he’s also “politically responsible for the consequences” of deals that the firm made through then.

Harry Reid must of really taken his meds this morning! I agree with him….see the link above in this post about the uniforms our olympic team has to wear.

Politico:

What would Harry Reid do with the U.S. Olympic Team’s uniforms that were made in China?

Burn ’em.

The Senate majority leader said Thursday the U.S. Olympic Committee should be “ashamed” for providing uniforms to its athletes that were made overseas and suggested they be destroyed.

“They should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them,” the Nevada Democrat told reporters at a news conference on a Democratic jobs bill.
