Gas Prices Trending Down

Well, after that big run-up in gas prices, seems now the price of gasoline around here is really dropping. Few days back, I paid $3.29 to fill up the van. Today, the Kum & Go up the street is sitting at $3.31 a gallon. Wife told me that going through Osceola this morning heading to her cousin’s place, gas was $3.19 a gallon! This evening, when she got home, I did the right thing and took her out for dinner. And gasoline was at $3.21 in Indianola. So am thinking, at least for this Memorial Day holiday, that gasoline is down. Now how long it says down? Depends of course on the price of oil (give or take a few pennies, at $90 a barrel). And the price of oil depends upon a few factors, one of which is demand, and the one part that so far everyone is talking down because of fear it may just happen is what is going on in Europe. Greece hankering to get out of the euro zone and go back to the old monetary unit. They do that? All bets are off for any good news economically coming out of Europe! Long involved thing, and you should read about the euro, the banks, the countries, and just how screwed up the whole mess is. And the bottom line, again no one really wants to talk about this much, is that if Europe goes down, guess who goes down shortly after? Yep, the good old USA! Ah, what a mess of the entire world that governments, aiding and abetted by banks and financial institutions, have made!

We really have to get this George W. Bush guy out of office so we can put a stop to this kind of government intrusiveness and… what? Who is president? Well, in that case I’m sure this is okay:

The Department of Homeland Security has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.

The intriguing the list includes obvious choices such as ‘attack’, ‘Al Qaeda’, ‘terrorism’ and ‘dirty bomb’ alongside dozens of seemingly innocent words like ‘pork’, ‘cloud’, ‘team’ and ‘Mexico’.

Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats.

The words are included in the department’s 2011 ‘Analyst’s Desktop Binder’ used by workers at their National Operations Center which instructs workers to identify ‘media reports that reflect adversely on DHS and response activities’.

Being dumbass by doubling down day by day on this topic.

The Hill:

Former White House Press Secretary and Obama adviser Robert Gibbs dismissed Mitt Romney as no “economic savior” Sunday.

Top advisers to both the president and his GOP challenger sparred on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” continuing the argument what voters should take from Romney’s long tenure at private equity firm Bain Capital.

Gibbs kept up the president’s line of attack, arguing that Romney’s time investing in some companies, some of which ended up failing, does not qualify him to claim a profound understanding of what the economy needs.

He said his time at Bain is “the central and only point that Romney brings up. . . that would make him an economic savior.”

“What Bain Capital never did was focus on job creation, that’s not what Bain Capital does. It loads up companies with debt, it takes money out of those companies and pays those investors,” he added. “It’s not about job creation, and that is what Mitt Romney is running on.”

Sheikh Ahmed al-Mahlawi brags about how a female official from the U.S. Consulate wanted to meet with him, but he insisted she wear a Muslim headbag/hijab first. Judging by the photo below, he has even coerced a male political figure into wearing a headbag.

Raymond Ibrahim:

According to El Badil, Sheikh Ahmed al-Mahlawi recently gave a sermon in his popular Alexandrian mosque, warning the ulema (Islam’s scholars and theologians) from “appearing on TV programs with women who do not wear the hijab.” He pointed out that some Islamic leaders make the excuse that, because they see non-veiled women all the time in the streets of Egypt, sitting with one at a TV studio should be fine as well.

For Sheikh Mahlawi, however, the ulema have no choice about seeing non-veiled women in the streets, “since that is imposed on them,” but, where they have a say — such as whether to appear on TV with an unveiled woman — they must say no. He then proceeded to brag about how a female official from the U.S. Consulate wanted to meet with him, but he made her wear the hijab first. Finally, he culminated his sermon by saying “those who do not wish to apply Allah’s Sharia” are also those who “love the West, and wish to implement homosexual marriage.”

(maybe we should make those ragheaded bastards wear suit and ties when they come to us?)

Politico:

Sometimes the guests get the sound bites, sometimes the hosts do.

CBS “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer kicks off the show Sunday with: “One of the refreshing changes when the president was elected — he talked about hope and change. Whatever happened to hope and change? Now, it seems he’s coming right out of the box with these old-fashioned negative ads. . .”

Robert Gibbs was the lucky recipient of this query.

“There’s gonna be a choice in this election,” said Gibbs, a senior Obama campaign adviser. “Mitt Romney has been running for president many years of his life and [has] been very critical of this president’s policies. . . People of this country will reject the sort of speculation-type gains Mitt Romney is quite good at for himself and his investors.”

Schieffer wasn’t done. He quoted Tom Friedman’s column Sunday claiming Barack Obama is the “worst president I’ve ever seen when it comes to explaining his achievements, putting them in context, connecting with people on a gut level through repetition. . .”

Gibbs thanked Tom for the “free advice.”

Each year, roughly 7,000 blacks are murdered. Ninety-four percent of the time, the murderer is another black person. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, between 1976 and 2011, there were 279,384 black murder victims. Using the 94 percent figure means that 262,621 were murdered by other blacks. Though blacks are 13 percent of the nation’s population, they account for more than 50 percent of homicide victims. Nationally, black homicide victimization rate is six times that of whites, and in some cities, it’s 22 times that of whites. Coupled with being most of the nation’s homicide victims, blacks are most of the victims of violent personal crimes, such as assault and robbery.

The magnitude of this tragic mayhem can be viewed in another light. According to a Tuskegee Institute study, between the years 1882 and 1968, 3,446 blacks were lynched at the hands of whites. Black fatalities during the Korean War (3,075), Vietnam War (7,243) and all wars since 1980 (8,197) come to 18,515, a number that pales in comparison with black loss of life at home. It’s a tragic commentary to be able to say that young black males have a greater chance of reaching maturity on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan than on the streets of Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, Newark and other cities.
