How much is the White House Worth?

Like it or not, the election season is here. Along with heated debates and campaign promises, the politically savvy will start tossing around a tried and true adage: The White House is for sale.

This got us thinking: What would the Executive Mansion in the heart of Washington D.C. fetch?

To answer this question we reached out to The Koitz Group, a luxury real estate firm that has operated in the nation’s capital and surrounding areas for more than a decade.

A Brief History of the White House

Like our country, the White House has a long and complicated history.

In 1790 President George Washington signed into law an act that declared the federal government would sit on 10-square miles of land along the Potomac River. A competition was held to find a builder for the White House, and Irish-born architect James Hoban was chosen.

Construction began in 1792 and finished in 1800. Since then each president, excluding Washington, has lived in the White House. Twice the building has caught fire, once when the British burned it during the War of 1812 and again in 1929.

But when it comes to our hypothetical question, we excluded the the White House’s historic value and stuck with cold hard facts.

At 55,000 square feet, the house at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has

  • 132 rooms
  • 35 baths
  • 6 levels.

What Would the White House Sell For?

Jason Koitz, the certified fiscal officer and real estate strategist for The Koitz Group, tossed Movoto’s request around the office and came back with two numbers, a listing price and a more realistic sales price.

“I think just based on the size and location; the list price would be in the low $100 million range. It would probably be $110 or $115 (million). This would be an extreme luxury home.”

Jason Koitz, The Koitz Group

Realistically, if such a hypothetical can be called that, Koitz said the White House would sell for somewhere between $75 and $80 million, or between $1,364 and $1,455 per square foot.

Score one point for Team Romney!

Columbus, Ohio (CNN) — GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney welcomed President Barack Obama to the Buckeye State on Saturday by parking his campaign bus outside of the site where Obama will hold his first campaign rally of the 2012 campaign.

Now this is neat.

I suppose “only” $19 million for Freddie Mac is a big improvement. After all, in the last quarter of 2011, you and the rest of the tax payers in America gave Freddie Mac $146 million. I’m going to assume (but not sure) that the so called “conservatives” in the House authorized the previous $146 million, so the $19 shouldn’t be hard for Freddie Mac to get at all.

Last year alone, Freddie Mac got a whopping $7.6 billion in tax payer bailout dollars. Again, I’m going to assume Congress had to authorize this, but I’m not 100% sure. As we continue along in Obamaville, Freddie Mac lost $1.2 billion, or 38 cents a share, in the first quarter of 2012. In the first quarter of 2011, Freddie Mac lost $929 million, or 29 cents a share, so you can see where this is going.

Well, it seems our president the football spiker, the one who claims he got Osama, had a back up memo to protect his ass if things went wrong!

Leadership: Obama Administration Drafted Memo to Blame Military if OBL Mission Failed

Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey told Sean Hannity tonight that the Obama Administration drafted a memo to protect the president from blame if the mission to kill or capture Osama Bin Laden would have failed. That way Obama could blame the general instead of taking the blame himself. Mukasey wrote about it this week in The Wall Street Journal.

“That was a highly lawyered memo (designed to protect the president politically)… I think there’s going to be more that’s going to be tumbling out about that escapade but so far that memo is enough.“

And, of course, this surprises no one who is familiar with Obama’s leadership style.

Capitol Hill Cubans reminds us that the IKEA scandal is just one of the many examples of foreign companies using Cuba’s enslaved people as cheap slave labor:

Whether Ikea, Melia or Odebrecht

As we posted yesterday, former East German Stasi files have revealed how Swedish furniture maker Ikea contracted with the Castro regime to use Cuban political prisoners as slave labor.Frankly, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Just imagine what will be revealed once Castro’s secret police files are opened.

And, one day, they will be.

Moreover, this is not a historic anomaly — it is a current tragedy.

On this very day, foreign companies like Spain’s Melia hotel chain and Brazil’s Obdebrecht construction group continue to partner with the Castro dictatorship, exploiting enslaved Cuban workers to reap a hefty profit.

Cuban workers are not free to directly contract and enjoy the fruits of their labor, in violation of their fundamental human rights.

It is for this reason that we will continue to oppose U.S. companies joining these unethical practices and continue to pressure foreign companies that turn a blind-eye.

Say, is this chart racist?

…it is just getting sad now. In April the number of people not in the labor force rose by a whopping 522,000 from 87,897,000 to 88,419,000. This is the highest on record.

Panetta Warns Troops About Behavior

“After a series of ‘troubling incidents,’ US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta tells troops bound for Afghanistan he needs them to display ‘the utmost integrity in everything you do.”’  - –  The Telegraph – May 5, 2012 (Video Below)

The biggest mistake those who have not served, or in Panetta’s case, served minimally with no combat experience, make is to provide direct guidance to the troops. There are very few that can garner the respect of warriors, outside of warriors themselves. And make no mistake about it, our troops are warriors. It’s what they signed up to do and it’s what they consistently train for.

As Secretary of Defense, Panetta’s job should be to provide general guidelines to the Commanders in charge, and let them do their job. The same is true for other members of the executive staff with the exception of the Commander in Chief who should limit his comments to a “job well done”.

Simply put, our civilian leaders should define the mission and leave it to soldiers to command soldiers.

We are at war, and ugly things happen in war. To dispute that fact is ignorant. A few pictures displaying the dead corpses of those who minutes before tried to kill you is not going to increase insurgent recruitment two or even three fold. The same people who tried to kill our soldiers yesterday are the same ones trying to do so today. And quite frankly, we’ve seen worse depicted on cable news on the part of the insurgents. The beheading of Daniel Pearl comes to mind.

Obama’s auditorium was so empty today that “ushers were asking people at the rally to move ‘in order for seats to look full for TV’”

ABC News:

The president routinely tells Democratic audiences that he knows it will be difficult to recapture the energy that powered him to the White House. He got a reminder of that struggle in Columbus: His rally drew 14,000 people to an arena that holds 18,300. And before he spoke, the Ohio State University newspaper The Lantern tweeted that ushers were asking people at the rally to move “in order for seats to look full for TV.”

Strikes me as just bad form that the president uses Air Force One to go to his campaign events! Does he pay for all this? Does his reelection campaign pay for all this? Who does pay for this? Is it us tax payers?

Still the same song and dance from our campaigner in chief!

ABC News:

Fighting to recapture the magic of his history-making 2008 campaign, President Barack Obama on Saturday laid out his fullest-yet case for reelection, pleading with struggling Americans to “keep believing in me” and hitting out at presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

“If people ask you what this campaign is about, you tell them ‘it’s still about hope.’ You tell them ‘it’s still about change,’” he told a cheering mass of supporters at Ohio State University in Columbus, six months and one day before the election. “I still believe in you. And I’m asking you to keep believing in me.”

Another reason that muslims of all stripes are nothing but beneath animals! War ever comes? First target for us should be their freaking holy crap sites!

BAMAKO May 5 (Reuters) — Malian fighters from the Ansar Dine Islamist group attacked and burned the tomb of one of the town’s saints, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, residents and a regional official said on Saturday.

The militants broke off doors, windows and wooden gates from the grave and burned them, they said, in the first reported attack on a shrine in Mali.

El Hadj Baba Haidara, an elected member of parliament from Timbuktu told Reuters some young people were discussing how to react despite being unarmed.

“There is a risk the people may revolt because this is something that affects their dignity. This tomb is sacred, it is too difficult to bear,” Haidara said.

Ansar Dine, along with Tuareg rebels and other armed groups, swept through northern Mali in March and April, seizing the northern half of the country and its ancient towns of Timbuktu, Gao and Kidal after the government collapsed in a March 22 coup.

While the rebel MNLA has declared an independent state in the north, al Qaeda-linked Ansar Dine — led by veteran Tuareg leader Iyad Ag Ghaly – has rejected that idea and said the group’s objective was to impose Islamic law in Mali.

In 2001, the Taliban dynamited and destroyed two 6th century statues of Buddha measuring 55 and 37 metres (180 and 121 feet) high, carved into a cliff in Bamiyan in central Afghanistan.

Timbuktu Muslims on their way to Friday worship at the tomb of Sidi Mahmoud Ben Amar and those of other saints were stopped and threatened by armed men from Ansar Dine, one resident said.

Another comment by me about the story above. Maybe if Christians or the west or someone told the muslims to stop destroying sites, churches, synagogues, and killing christians or else we destroy Mecca? That should be worth something!
