Krill Is Eating Potential Algae Gasoline

We went up to Des Moines this morning. No going to the gym and I hate missing one day. But it is our weekly trip to visit Aunt Louise. She was in good spirits today. She will shortly be 100 years old! She said, I don’t want no birthday party! Well, yesterday she told her daughter, instead of a birthday party, just hold a wake for me. So the women are planning a 100 year old wake for her. As usual wife did the Aunt’s hair (hey, my job is easy…to pick Aunt Louise out of her chair into the wheel chair. And later put her back in her chair. She is really light as a feather.) and we did bring her some good food, especially loved by the Aunt was the gooseberry preserves. Got those the other day while in Missouri.

After, we went to lunch with our cousins (Aunt Louise’s daughter) and one of my wife’s sisters showed up. So had a great time eating a superb lunch and just yakking about anything and everything. If ever you are in Des Moines, do go down Douglas Ave. to the Chicago Speakeasy. They always have great food done right!

Then a stop at ALDI for some groceries and then to QT to fill up the van with high priced gasoline. Damn, $41.00 to fill up the van! And then home.

Enormous algal bloom floats near Antarctica

An unprecedented algal bloom is making a splash in the Southern Ocean. Unlike in some other aquatic areas, the bloom there could be a blessing rather than a curse.

Scientists at the University of Tasmania have discovered a 20,000-square-kilometer (7,700-square-mile) bed of algae in Antarctica. The researchers became aware of the unusual bloom through satellite information from NASA, which captured images of huge, brownish-green spots in the waters of the ocean.
When it comes to the Adriatic or Baltic Seas, researchers are prone to talk about an “algae plague,” but the situation is different in the case of Antarctica.

President Barack Obama’s deputies are defending his lobbying against a GOP effort in the Senate to fast-track approval of the job-creating Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada.

GOP leaders in the Senate are pressing the chamber’s Democratic leadership for a vote on the fast-track bill Mar. 8, but Obama has called Democratic Senators to urge them to vote against the GOP measure.

“The president has communications with some members of Congress… he’s made some phone calls, I’ll confirm that,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said Mar. 8. Carney declined to say how many Senators were called by Obama, or if other Administration leaders called Senators to vote against the fast-track bill.

ANCHOR: A loophole that allowed foreign workers to take Oregon logging jobs may soon close. Last year more than 250 foreign workers were hired using federal stimulus money, even though thousands of Oregon loggers didn’t have jobs. Forest companies exploited a loophole in a foreign worker visa program. But Rep. Peter Defazio and Sen. Jeff Merkley introduced a bill today to stop what they consider abuse of the system.

MERKLEY: All of this was about creating jobs for Americans, and as it turned out this money was spent in Oregon and not a single Oregonian was hired.

ANCHOR: If it becomes a law, the bill would force companies to aggressively advertise for U.S. workers. It would also give the states power to certify the company did all it could possibly do to hire American workers first.

If our president, our congress, had the freaking balls, this could be done!

This is fuzzy math. We have the longest job recession under Obama; and still, Obama says the economy is improving with unemployment at 8.3%.

(Investors) The U.S. economy added 227,000 jobs in February vs. expectations for 206,000, continuing a recent trend of decent hiring activity. The unemployment rate held at 8.3%.

But America remains mired in the longest jobs recession since the Great Depression. It’s been 49 months since the U.S. hit peak employment in January 2008. And with nonfarm payrolls still 5.33 million below their old high, the jobs slump will continue for several more years.

The previous jobs recession record — 47 months — came during and after the comparatively mild 2001 recession, which saw unemployment climb to only 6.3%. The average job recovery time since 1980 is 29 months, not including the current slump.

The labor market won’t truly return to health until some 10 million positions are created to rehire all those who lost their jobs and to absorb new workers.

“I don’t know how anyone can sit in the audience of a commentator like Bill Maher and chuckle and laugh and think that’s entertaining. I think it’s disgusting. And this dirty money that he has now provided Barack Obama’s campaign – I don’t know how Barack Obama can sleep at night if he really thinks about Sasha and Mahlia and the treatment of some women today, how he can accept that dirty money. Granted Barack Obama has never been seen in the conventional, traditional way of we who describe a man of valor, so it shouldn’t surprise us that Barack Obama would accept that dirty money.

What does Uganda have (other than corruption, greed, and abject poverty) to give the US in exchange?

Uganda is also a place where hundreds of kids are dying of “nodding disease.”

Their president, after giving millions to government workers for new cars and refusing to pay teachers raises to combat inflation, says it is NOT HIS JOB to take care of those kids.

Why is this asshole idiot still alive?

Why is this idiot still on the air? Why no calls to shut her down, fine her, remove her, etc? Oh, she is a freaking ass liberal!

Randi Rhodes:

Randi Rhodes is a liberal talk radio host that can be heard on numerous affiliates across the country and on satellite radio. So when she says something, there’s likely more than a few people listening. And she just said something pretty wild.

After playing audio of Fox commentator Monica Crowley criticizing Sandra Fluke and the idea that women need $3,000 a year for birth control, Rhodes lost it on Wednesday, saying that conservative women don’t deserve to have ovaries.

“You know, these women, somebody really needs to go repossess their ovaries. Really, truly, they have no right to them. They are fabulous, little organs and they have absolutely no right to be estrogen-bearing beings. Okay? Just cut ‘em off, let ‘em go through the hot flashes, let ‘em just sit there and complain about hormone therapy, okay? Just take the ovaries and get it over with. Because they don’t deserve to have estrogen. They really don’t. It’s a privilege.”
