More Corruption from the Obama Regime?

Here is a story of possible corruption yet again by the obama regime.

And it is a story that you may not have heard about from any of the liberal press.

LightSquared CEO Sanjiv Ahuja abruptly announced his resignation Tuesday amid revelations of his company’s political proximity — and his own closeness — to the White House and Obama administration officials.

The Daily Caller first reported one week ago on emails and documents that indicate political ties and numerous meetings between LightSquared and Obama administration officials as the company was undergoing regulatory review.

Ahuja’s resignation comes after Obama’s FCC suspended conditional approval of a waiver LightSquared needed to complete its high-speed broadband network. Until two weeks ago, the company’s final approval appeared imminent.

Ahuja, who had never donated to Democrats before and has not since, gave the maximum allowable $30,400 contribution to the Democratic National Committee on the same day his lawyers were trying to arrange a meeting for him at the White House with top Obama technology adviser Aneesh Chopra and other officials.

In emails between Ahuja’s lawyers and White House officials Ahuja wanted to meet with, his lawyers pointed out that he would attend an Obama fundraiser on or about the same day he wanted the meeting.

In a statement accompanying the company’s announcement of Ahuja’s resignation, he made no mention of those revelations.

“During my tenure at LightSquared, we all worked tirelessly to create the nation’s first open wireless broadband network and provide consumers with a new wireless broadband experience,” Ahuja said. “That work continues and I wish the company and its fine management team well as they work to achieve this important goal.”

(very telling when you read the bit about his contribution on the same day his lawyers want a meeting for him at the white house)

The Secret to a Long Marriage

With a man soon to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary at the church’s marriage marathon, the minister asked Pete to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he managed to maintain his marriage with the same woman all these years.

The husband replied to the audience, “Well, I treated her with respect, spent money on her, but mostly I took her traveling on special occasions.”

The minister inquired, “Trips to where”?

“For our 25th anniversary, I took her to Beijing, China.”

The minister then said, “What a terrific example you are to all husbands, Pete.”

Please tell the audience what you’re going to do for your wife on your 50th anniversary.”

Pete said, “I’m going to go get her.”

RIP: Andrew Breitbart Dead At 43

Big Government:

With a terrible feeling of pain and loss we announce the passing of Andrew Breitbart.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.

We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior.

Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.

(I have heard that the liberals are rejoicing over this…see just one example here):

Here’s Slate columnist Matthew Yglesias cheering Breitbart’s death.

Via Washington Free Beacon:

Economics and philosophy expert Matthew Yglesias reacted with glee Thursday morning at the news that conservative journalist Andrew Breitbart had died.

“Conventions around dead people are ridiculous,” the Slate correspondent wrote on Twitter this morning. “The world outlook is slightly improved with @AndrewBrietbart [sic] dead.”

“If you think @AndrewBrietbart’s [sic] opponents shouldn’t be glad he’s dead, you’re not taking his life’s work seriously,” Yglesias added.

NBC News:

. . . Breitbart was walking near his home in Brentwood, Calif just after midnight Thursday when he collapsed according to his father-in-law Orson Bean. Someone saw Breitbart fall and called 911. Emergency crews tried to revive him and rushed him to the emergency room at UCLA Medical Center, Bean said.

He is survived by his wife Susannah Bean Breitbart, 41, and four children.

(for sure he will be missed by all. be interesting though to hear with obama and his regime say. or will they just let their liberal scum continue with their hatred of this man?)

And then this story yesterday from my state. Hilarious really to hear the local newscasters go on about this. Like they just did not believe what was happening. Simply because no democrat called them to let them know. Yes, local media here is a bit on the left side.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa House approved two gun-rights measures Wednesday night that sparked Democrats to stage a walkout earlier in the day, stalling action for six hours.

One bill would allow people to use deadly force to protect themselves and the other called for writing gun rights protections into the Iowa Constitution. The second measure would have to be approved by another legislative assembly next year and then be referred to voters.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines said the chamber’s 40 Democrats decided to return after deciding they’d made their displeasure clear regarding a lack of notice about the bills and concerns the proposals would gut the state’s gun laws. He said he feared the votes would turn Iowa into the Wild, Wild West.”

“It would eliminate all gun laws,” he said. “This issue is very, very extreme. This proposal is not a mainstream proposal.”

Backers argued for the change in the Constitution, warning judges are eager to limit the rights of gun owners.

(note to self, get ammo and more guns soon)

Do watch and listen to both.

U.S. Judge Strikes Down F.D.A. Cigarette Labels

A federal judge on Wednesday declared unconstitutional a Food and Drug Administration requirement that tobacco companies prominently display graphic warning labels on cigarette packages.

Judge Richard J. Leon of the United States District Court in Washington ruled that forcing the companies to use the labels, which show staged images like a man breathing smoke out of a tracheotomy hole in his neck and a mouth punctured with what appear to be cancerous lesions, violated their free speech rights under the First Amendment.

“The government’s interest in advocating a message cannot and does not outweigh plaintiff’s First Amendment right to not be the government’s messenger,” Judge Leon wrote.

His ruling largely echoed arguments he made in a preliminary injunction he issued in November. The significance of Wednesday’s ruling is unclear, since the Obama administration has appealed the injunction.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The city of Stockton in California’s crop-abundant Central Valley has the second-highest foreclosure rate in the nation and one of the highest crime and unemploymentrates. It was named America’s most miserable city in a national magazine – twice.

And now, officials say this river port city of 290,000 is on the brink of insolvency and could become the nation’s largest city to fall into Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection.

The City Council voted late Tuesday to use a new California law to enter mediation with its creditors. City leaders said they hoped the plan to renegotiate Stockton’s debt would help it avoid bankruptcy.

Dozens of residents spoke against the move, saying they feared it would do the opposite, KRCA-TV reported.

“If they vote for mediation, it is the first step towards bankruptcy,” former City Manager Dwane Milnes said. “That means 1,000 people could lose retirement benefits.”

It’s a study that would have been music to the ears of Hitler, Stalin and the rest of the 20th century’s brutal dictators.

But it may make uncomfortable reading for the rest of us.

Scientists have suggested the theory of democracy has an unfortunate flaw – that most of the public are just too stupid to pick the right candidate.

According to the theory, the democratic process relies on the assumption that a majority of citizens recognise the best political candidate, or best policy idea, when they see it.

But a growing body of research has implied that democratic elections produce mediocre leadership and policies.

The health plan for teachers union members in Buffalo, NY apparently includes liposuction and nose jobs – and we pay for all of it.

As CNN reports:

The sweet deal that all the 3,400 teachers in Buffalo are eligible to get under one of their insurance plan options, they are billed nothing for any plastic surgery procedure, such as botox, liposuction, tummy tucks, and there is no deductible …. Last year, Buffalo’s schools spent $5.9 million on plastic surgery which is also known as a cosmetic rider. And Buffalo teachers have had this rider for nearly four decades …. Now you might think Buffalo’s school district must be flush with cash to be offering perks like free plastic surgery, right? Wrong. Louis Petrucci, the president of the Buffalo Board of Education says he is projecting a $42 million deficit in next year’s school budget.

What happens when the U.S. threatens an international organization and that group thumbs its nose at the U.S.? Under President Obama, this defiance gets rewarded and American allies are abandoned.

Last year, the United Nations organization UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization) admitted Palestine as a member state, despite repeated warnings from Secretary Clinton that the move would require the U.S. to cut off funding. Under bipartisan legislation signed by Secretary Clinton’s husband in 1994, U.S. law forbids funding of the U.N. or affiliated organizations that grant Palestine standing as a member state. U.S. funding was immediately cut off in accordance with the law, and our allies Israel and Canada stood with us and froze their funding of UNESCO.But yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton acknowledged that she and President Obama are seeking to reverse this bipartisan policy by asking Congress to waive current law, and allow $78 million in new funding to UNESCO, which constitutes over 20% of the international organizations’ budget…
