My Colonoscopy Today and the Aftermath

Update: I was out of it when the procedure was over. I remember the doctor standing there talking, but that was it. My wife told me that he had removed 18 polyps! And could not go all the way up into the colon. Had to stop short of the end (wife said it was like a couple of inches he said). Anyways, just read the stuff they gave me and I do have another appointment for a colonoscopy in 6 months.

Okay, no food tuesday, only clear liquids wednesday. And nothing today until after my colonoscopy. Had plans for a nice steak dinner this evening, but NO!

Went in to the hospital at 1045 am today (one of the few damn days in my life I did not have coffee when I woke up!). And after the paperwork, then it was the prepping. Yes, all the clothes off and into a paper contraption open at the rear. Then the anesthesiologist came in, more paperwork, and explanation of what he was going to do, how quick I would be out of it, and the aftermath when I finally got pure oxygen to wake me up.

The it was the doctor who was to do the colonoscopy. He explained all. And then said meet you in the OR.

They walked me into the room and had me lay down the way I had to be (on the side), put the mask on me and bam! Next thing I know, this nurse is asking me if I am awake yet.

Now, I had planned when I got done with this, to go out and have that steak dinner. Boy, was I surprised! Seems the doctor found several polyps and removed them.

Thus, today I stay on clear liquids only! Tomorrow I can go on other liquids (like juice with pulp, cream in my coffee, stuff like that). And finally saturday afternoon, after 230pm, I can have real food!

So drinking ice tea and having a few cups of beef broth.

And to make it worse for me? Wife and her sister just left to go have their steak dinners! Damn women! Told them I would cuss their names for quite some time.

So, how was your day?

Recently released results from the Public Religion Research Institute hold seriously bad news for the long term viability of the Democrats and Barack Obama’s chances of reelection.   The pollsters spoke to adults between the ages of 18 and 24 about their views on race relations, and their findings were surprising.

One of the questions they asked these young people centered on whether they thought the government paid too much attention to the complaints of blacks and minorities in general.  They were asked about the existence of reverse discrimination and if it was a problem in their view.

These young people – “millennials” as they are labeled by sociologists- don’t seem to be following the Democrats’ script on how they should think about racial issues. Almost half of them (46%) believe the government pays too much attention to the complaints of minorities, and 48% feel that discrimination against whites is a considerable problem.

Do you know the name Jada Williams?

You probably know the name Sandra Fluke.  She received a phone call from the incumbent president after the mean old white man on the radio called her a name.  You probably know the name Trayvon Martin.  The incumbent president answered a planted question from a White House reporter to indicate that Trayvon, slain by an individual representing the heretofore unknown demographic of white Hispanic, looked like he could be the president’s son.

Jada Williams is a 13-year-old student from Rochester, New York.  Earlier this school year, she was given a copy of the book The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, written by the great patriot Frederick Douglass.  Her assignment was to read the book and write an essay about her impressions.  Her essay was to be entered in a contest.  Jada Williams happens to be black.  Many of her teachers are white.

Reading Douglass can — and should — incite rage and astonishment at the depths to which barbaric slaveowners and their deputies sank in treating their fellow men.  The violence perpetrated upon Douglass and other slaves by the protected class of overseers is relayed in stark detail — to wit, an anecdote about an overseer named Mr. Gore:

Mr. Gore once undertook to whip one of Colonel Lloyd’s slaves, by the name of Demby. He had given Demby but few stripes, when, to get rid of the scourging, he ran and plunged himself into a creek, and stood there at the depth of his shoulders, refusing to come out. Mr. Gore told him that he would give him three calls, and that, if he did not come out at the third call, he would shoot him. The first call was given. Demby made no response but stood his ground. The second and third calls were given with the same result. Mr. Gore then, without consultation or deliberation with any one, not even giving Demby an additional call, raised his musket to his face, taking deadly aim at his standing victim, and in an instant poor Demby was no more…He (Gore) was asked by Colonel Lloyd and my old master, why he resorted to this extraordinary expedient. His reply was, (as well as I can remember,) that Demby had become unmanageable.

Ms. Williams struggled with the initial part of the assignment.  She found it difficult to encounter some of the vocabulary used by Douglass.  Exasperated at being unprepared to confront the text, she sought definition to that which she did not comprehend.  Once she became satisfied that she grasped Douglass’s use of the language, she understood what Douglass was describing.  She was struck by comparisons between her life and Douglass’s characterizations of the plantation overseers and masters and mistresses who denied him knowledge for fear of his becoming aware of his humanity.

Millions of illegal immigrants are getting a bigger tax refund than you.

Bob Segall, of WTHI reports finding a massive tax loophole that provides billions of dollars in tax credits to undocumented workers and, in many cases, people who have never stepped foot in the United States. And you are paying for it.

Inside his central Indiana office, a longtime tax consultant sits at his desk, shaking his head in disbelief.
“There is not a doubt in my mind there’s huge fraud taking place here,” he said, slowly flipping through the pages of a tax return.

The tax preparer does not want you to know his name for fear of reprisal, but he does want you to know about a nationwide problem with a huge price tag.
He came to 13 Investigates to blow the whistle.

Dana Milbank-

The preezy of the United Steezy is making me queasy.

I’m not troubled by President Obama’s slow jam with Jimmy Fallon, who dubbed the commander in chief “preezy” during Obama’s appearance on late-night TV. No, preezy is making me queasy because his nonstop campaigning is looking, well, sleazy — and his ad suggesting that Mitt Romney wouldn’t have killed Osama bin Laden is just the beginning of it.

In a political culture that long ago surrendered to the permanent campaign, Obama has managed to take things to a new level. According to statistics compiled for a book to be published this summer, the president has already set a record for total first-term fundraisers — 191 — and that’s only through March 6. Measured in terms of events that benefit his re-election bid, Obama’s total (inflated in part by relaxed fundraising rules) exceeds the combined total of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter.

It’s not just the gatherings officially categorized as campaign events. To a greater extent than his predecessors, Obama has used the trappings of his office to promote his re-election prospects even while handling taxpayer-funded business.

According to the same book, “The Rise of the President’s Permanent Campaign,” by Naval Academy political scientist Brendan Doherty, Obama was the first president in at least 32 years to visit all of the battleground states during his first year in office. He has kept that pace, devoting nearly half of his travel to 15 swing states that account for just over a third of the population.
