Obama says Private Sector Doing Fine so Moody’s Downgrades 15 Banks
Okay, obama famously said the private sector is doing fine. But since he made that dumbass statement, more and more economic news is making him out to be a big fat liar! And the latest news today is that Moody’s Investors Services downgraded the credit ratings of 15 US banks. This in real terms means that Moody’s has fears that these banks will not be able to repay their debts.
NEW YORK (AP) — Moody’s Investors Service lowered the credit ratings of 15 major banks Thursday, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, saying their long-term prospects for profitability and growth are shrinking.
The ratings agency said it was especially concerned about banks with significant financial markets businesses because those markets have become so volatile. Some of the largest European banks were also downgraded, including Barclays, Deutsche Bank and HSBC.
These banks were vulnerable to “outsized losses,” Moody’s global banking managing director Greg Bauer said in a statement. These behemoth banks are all major players in the global stock and bond markets, which have become extremely volatile. However, Bauer pointed out that some of the banks, like JPMorgan Chase and HSBC, have reliable buffers in more stable businesses which could act as “shock absorbers” during a crisis.
The downgrades reflect Moody’s concern over the ability of the banks to repay their debts during times of crisis. Moody’s had said in February that it was considering downgrading the credit ratings of major banks in the U.S. and in Europe.

The politics of politics. Chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, has just pressed ahead with contempt charges against Attorney General Eric Holder. Attempting to argue that AG Holder somehow withheld information with regards to the Fast and Furious case, Issa has engaged in a political witch hunt that proves only one thing: the hypocrisy of GOP members for personal and Party benefit.
The highest officer of law and order in this nation has been ridiculed, scapegoated and handled as some sort of criminal throughout this ‘investigation.’ Turning over thousands of documents and overextending himself, AG Holder was spoken to and mistreated as if he were a child, and reminded that despite his esteemed position, he can and would be profiled. AG Holder was in essence ‘stopped & frisked’ without probable cause, and after he cooperated, he was made an example of. What Issa just showed us is that no matter what our stature in this world, someone can easily try to ‘put us in our place.’ What could be more outrageous? [...]
As I marched this past Sunday with tens of thousands in New York in opposition to the abhorrent practice of stop & frisk,’ I couldn’t help but think of our attorney general. Tattered down and publicly humiliated, AG Holder has been mishandled just like the young Black and Latino men (and women) who are demonized on our streets everyday. Chris Matthews of Hardball on MSNBC concurred: AG Holder is being profiled, stopped and searched.

Hip hop mogul and major Obama campaign donor Russell Simmons was scolded by the Anti-Defamation League this afternoon after he made “excuses for the polarizing anti-Semitic and racist speech of Louis Farrakhan.”
Simmons, who was speaking at a forum in Israel, alleged that ADL leader Abraham Foxman was “alienating blacks,” and compared his speech to Farrakhan’s divisive rhetoric.
Foxman slammed Simmons for the comparison and for leaping to defend Farrakhan from criticism in multiple interviews over the years.
“Shame on Simmons,” Foxman declared in a statement.
“We’ve heard this kind of doublespeak before, so it is not surprising to hear Russell Simmons once again making excuses for the polarizing anti-Semitic and racist speech of Louis Farrakhan,” Foxman said in a statement. “He’s been doing that for years.”

The head of the drug enforcement agency does not know something this basic? Fire her and get a real person in charge!
Congressman Jared Polis recently had the chance to question DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart about current drug policies. Instead of stating facts, all she could do is waste the congressman’s time, only using comments like, “I think…” and “All illegal drugs are bad.” As if the legal status of a chemical compound has any bearing whatsoever on its pharmacology.
When asked over and over if marijuana — you know that stuff the President of The United States of America Barack Obama did inhale – is more dangerous than heroin, cocaine, or meth, she could only offer the South Park-esque answer of, “Drugs are bad, M’Kay.”
The DEA Administrator’s logic is infallible. Drugs are bad because they are illegal, and are illegal because their bad. Then they must be bad… because their illegal. Don’t you get it? America should definitely continue spending BILLIONS of dollars arresting NON-violent drug offenders who happen to possess the wrong plant matter.
All is well. Please continue drinking your safe beer, smoking your safe cigarettes, and popping your safe prescription pills. You know because all that’s legal. Marijuana on the other is the dangerous, illicit weed.

Holder Slams House Contempt Vote: “Unwarranted, Unnecessary And Unprecedented”…
COPENHAGEN, Denmark — U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder says a vote by a House of Representatives committee to hold him in contempt was “unwarranted, unnecessary and unprecedented.”
Holder says he believes that a negotiated solution can be found, and the assembly “has to consider (…) what they will do and we’ll see how it works out. ”
The White House reacted sharply Wednesday to the party-line vote that came after President Barack Obama invoked executive privilege in refusing to turn over documents related to Operation Fast and Furious, which sent illicit arms into Mexico. A vote by the full House could come next week.
Holder spoke Thursday on the sidelines of a meeting with European Union officials in Copenhagen, Denmark, which holds the rotating EU presidency.
