Opening A Business In Greece Apparently Requires A Stool Sample

This is just too funny! Wonder if any of the Greek bureaucrats know about this? But what I find interesting is their solution to the banking problem. But not on how they get the money.

It took 10 months, a fat bundle of paperwork, countless certificates, long hours of haggling with bureaucrats and overcoming myriad other inconceivable obstacles for one group of young entrepreneurs to open an online store.

As e-commerce continues to gain ground apace abroad, and even Greeks seem to be warming to the idea of Internet shopping, opening an online store based in Greece is no job for the fainthearted.

“An online store is more complicated than a regular store basically because of the way payments are carried out,” explained Fotis Antonopoulos, one of the co-founders of, which sells olive oil-based products such as cosmetics, mostly to foreign markets.

“Most stores begin operating after receiving only the approval regarding their brand name, as the bureaucracy involved takes such a long time to complete that it is simply impossible to keep up with the operational costs, such as paying rent on obligatory headquarters, without making any sales,” said Antonopoulos.

Antonopoulos and his partners spent hours collecting papers from tax offices, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the municipal service where the company is based, the health inspector’s office, the fire department and banks. At the health department, they were told that all the shareholders of the company would have to provide chest X-rays, and, in the most surreal demand of all, stool samples.

Once they climbed the crazy mountain of Greek bureaucracy and reached the summit, they faced the quagmire of the bank, where the issue of how to confirm the credit card details of customers ended in the bank demanding that the entire website be in Greek only, including the names of the products.

KFC over the weekend released a statement denying claims it had opened its first Iranian branch in over 30 years.

The fried chicken chain closed up shop in the Persian republic following the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

The state-run Fars news agency published, then retracted a report that KFC was launching the first of several Iranian restaurants “with the goal of creating 20,000 jobs.”

The owner of the local “KFC franchise,” Amir Hossein Alizadeh, said he had spent five years working on obtaining permission “from the mother company” to open a restaurant in the city of Karaj.

But the Louisville-based poultry purveyor insists it did not authorize the use of its brand, and will pursue legal action against Alizadeh.

The statement went on to say that KFC does not intend to open an Iranian branch in the foreseeable future.

(wonder if they use pig fat to fry up the chicks?)

Obama’s National Labor Relations Board announced its new Excelsior List, which will continue their assault on the 93% of private-sector employees who are union-free. Now all employees who are targeted for unionization will be forced to turn over their home telephone number and e-mail addresses to unions. This will give union organizers the ability to conduct intrusive home visits prior to the NLRB election.

(The Hill) — Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) warned that Israel could become the site of a “second Holocaust” if the United States does not provide military cover against Iran, a local Jacksonville, Fla., radio station, WOKV-AM/FM, reported on Monday.

“You’re looking at a second Holocaust . . . [if Israel doesn't] know they can trust and depend upon the stars and stripes . . . to provide them support,” said West, who was speaking at the First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach.

“There will be no spiritual homeland for Christians to return back to” if that Holocaust does occur, said West in the same speech, as reported by the West Palm Beach Palm Beach Post. “There will be no homeland for the Jewish people in the United States of America for their birthright. This is a dangerous situation and we have to take the Iranians for their word.”

In the same speech, West also warned that Israel’s other hostile neighbor, Syria, could quickly turn from its current civil war to war against Israel.

Now this is so eerily similar to our own president!

(Telegraph) — Iran’s Supreme Leader has called on the Revolutionary Guards to ensure that his supporters emerge triumphant in this week’s parliamentary elections, according to opposition sources.

At a meeting called last week by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, the leaders of the Revolutionary Guards and the volunteer Basij militia were urged to use the same tactics employed during the controversial 2009 presidential election contest.

On that occasion widespread vote-rigging led to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad being elected to serve a second four year term, a result that produced nationwide anti-government protests.

Mr Khamenei has since fallen out with Mr Ahmadinejad in a bitter dispute over the future role of the presidency in Iranian politics.

As a consequence Mr Khamenei is now urging the Revolutionary Guards to ensure his Conservative Front wins the majority of seats in Friday’s parliamentary seats at the expense of Mr Ahmadinejad’s supporters.

During the meeting, which was attended by Ali Larijani, the chairman of the Iranian parliament and a close ally of the Supreme Leader, Mr Khamenei repeatedly referred to the president’s followers as the “deviant movement”, and insisted that they take all necessary measures to prevent Mr Ahmadinejad’s followers from winning the elections.

Carney Does It Again: Republicans “Forced Us” To Deny Keystone Pipeline…

(this guy must be constipated with all the shit he has to spout off for his handlers)

“The reason why the Keystone XL required the review that it did is because it crossed, that pipeline crossed an international boundary. The State Department, by tradition and rule, reviews those requests for permits and was in the process of doing just that when the Republicans forced us to deny it because tried to compel the administration to grant a permit to a pipeline for which the route didn’t even exist.”

And how democrats really think when it comes to oil….

The Hill:

Senate Republicans are bashing Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) call for increased Saudi Arabian oil production to help ease prices, alleging it shows that Democrats are weak when it comes to boosting North American energy supplies and jobs.

Schumer on Sunday urged Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to press Saudi officials to expand production, noting that the kingdom is producing well below its capacity of 12.5 million barrels per day.

Republicans are hopeful that the letter provides a political opening to undercut Democratic and White House energy policies.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) office on Monday circulated a press release headlined “Top Democrat Senator Demands Increased Energy Production, Jobs In Saudi Arabia Rather Than Increasing American Energy And American Jobs.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, also doesn’t want Schumer’s letter to go unnoticed.

“Rather than approve the Keystone pipeline, the Democrats’ energy plan now calls for the most powerful nation in the free world to politely ask other countries for more oil and cross our fingers,” he said in a statement.
