By Kevin Glass at Townhall:
This week, when speaking at children’s toy K’NEX factory in Pennsylvania, President Obama urged the House of Representatives merely to pass what Harry Reid’s Senate has passed and send him the bill.
The Senate has already passed a bill to keep income taxes from going up on middle-class families. That’s already passed the Senate. Your member of Congress like Allyson and Chaka, other Democrats in the House, they’re ready to go. They’re ready to vote on that same thing. And if we can just get a few House Republicans on board, we can pass the bill in the House. It will land on my desk, and I am ready — I’ve got a bunch of pens ready to sign this bill.
This implies that the House is intransigent and uncompromising. What Obama neglected to mention is that the House has already passed a comprehensive tax cut package that prevents taxes from going up on middle-class families – it’s just that the President and Harry Reid will refuse to even consider it.
The Republican-controlled House passed legislation on a 256 to 171 vote that would extend the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts on income, capital gains and dividends through 2013. Republicans were joined by 20 Democrats in voting for the proposal, which would extend the tax cuts for all income levels.
So to take stock: President Obama wants Republicans to fall in line with legislation that has received only Democrats to vote for it so far. And President Obama wants to flat-out ignore a bill that passed with bipartisan support in the House that accomplishes his stated goal of preventing a tax hike in middle-class families.
And it’s the Republicans who are the obstructionists?

Legal implication of the United Nations Resolution on Palestine
The General Assembly vote declaring that Palestine, within the pre-1967 borders, is a “state”, at least for some purposes, would have nasty legal implications if it were ever to be taken seriously by the international community. It would mean that Israel, which captured some Jordanian territory after Jordan attacked West Jerusalem in 1967, is illegally occupying the Western Wall (Judaism’s holiest site), the Jewish Quarter of old Jerusalem (where Jews have lived for thousands of years), the access road to the Hebrew University (which was established well before Israel even became a state) and other areas necessary to the security of its citizens. It would also mean that Security Council Resolution 242, whose purpose it was to allow Israel to hold onto some of the territories captured during its defensive 1967 war, would be overruled by a General Assembly vote—something the United Nations Charter explicitly forbids. It would be the first time in history that a nation was required to return all land lawfully captured in a defensive war.

Opposing Susan Rice Sexist? What About Opposing John Kerry?
By Ken Blackwell at the Patriot Post:
Liberal Washington Post editorial page commentator Ruth Marcus sees sexism in the Republican opposition to naming the current U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, as Hillary Clinton’s replacement as Secretary of State. Marcus trots out a well-worn story from the 1970s. She relates the formidable Alice Rivlin’s recollections as first Director of the Congressional Budget Office. “Over my dead body will we have a woman in that job” was the reaction of the House Budget Committee Chairman. (Chairman, Ooh! Bad!) That was Dr. Rivlin’s testimony. Dr. Rivlin sailed through confirmation to chair the CBO and is widely respected on both sides of the aisle.
We’re not sure if that powerful male congressional malefactor is still on this side of the sod, but just look at what writer Marcus overlooks: That committee chairman in 1974 could only have been a Democrat. For forty years, no one but a Democrat chaired any House committee.
Conveniently overlooked by Ruth Marcus as well in this latest attempt to gin up a phony war on women is the fact — one of those stubborn facts — that the first woman to be confirmed as Secretary of State was Madeleine Albright. Sec. Albright sailed through in 1996 on a vote of 99-0 in a Senate controlled by Republicans.
Ambassador Rice was herself confirmed by a unanimous Senate vote for her current position at the UN. That vote included, dare we mention it, Republicans. Some of them, we hear, were white males.
The reason for the increasing opposition to Amb. Rice as Sec. of State is her failure to present the truth about the Benghazi debacle. This is but part of a pattern with Amb. Rice. She headed up the Africa section of the U.S. State Department in 1998 when that “fudge factory” denied urgent requests from our U.S. diplomats in Tanzania and Kenya.
Amb. Rice told Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that she would have to “refresh her memory” about the horrific al Qaeda bombings of our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya. Greta Van Susteren has reported on the closed-door meeting between Amb. Rice and Sen. Collins that left the Maine lawmaker with more doubts about the ambassador’s record. Those bombings left scores dead and hundreds wounded.
Many of the victims in those embassy bombings were black females. The “Soft Power” so enthusiastically endorsed by the Obama administration provides a sympathy blanket for international conferences. But these confabs are always held in safe places, well guarded. For Americans and our friends on the ground, Soft Power can mean sudden death.
If Ambassador Rice fails to get the coveted slot at State, speculation turns to Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) Conservatives should also lead the opposition to the Massachusetts lawmaker. John Kerry gained fame testifying against his fellow Vietnam veterans before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he now heads. Under oath, he claimed the U.S. forces in South Vietnam were violating the Geneva Convention in their treatment of the enemy.
That was in 1971. Young John Kerry also went to Paris to meet with North Vietnamese Communists for “talks.” What exactly was the nature of those talks? For a private citizen to negotiate with foreign powers has been a violation of federal law — the Logan Act — since 1798. Did Kerry negotiate? Did he demand that the North Vietnamese abide by the Geneva Convention? If not, why not? We know that our POWs were being subjected to daily torture in Hanoi. Kerry could turn to Sen. John McCain if he is in any doubt about that. Did Kerry keep written notes on his Paris meetings with our country’s enemies? If he did, let us see those notes. If he didn’t keep a record, is this the kind of Soft Power diplomacy he would bring to the State Department?
Lest you think we are stretching too far back in going after the mop-haired John Kerry’s youthful indiscretions, let’s talk about U.S. Senator John Kerry’s over-the-top advocacy of the Nuclear Freeze. He made that misguided effort on guided missiles his ticket to the Senate.
We now know that the Nuclear Freeze movement received major backing from the Soviet KGB. We know that it was the USSR’s best hope to split up NATO.
We know that the Nuclear Freeze was based on the absurd idea of how the United States should respond to aggressive Soviet moves in Eastern Europe, their placement of Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) within striking distance of every NATO capital. Kerry and his fellow Freezeniks thought we should do nothing. We should rally world opinion to force the Soviets to withdraw their IRBMs.
Harvard’s Adam Ulam, a Polish émigré, famously put down that silly notion. In his heavily-accented English, he asked: “And wot will you do iff they dun’t?” Kerry never had an answer.

When Does Obama’s Plan Balance the Budget? Hoyer: ‘I Don’t Know’
House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said he does not know when President Barack Obama’s plan for the fiscal cliff will balance the federal budget.
“The President’s proposition was that—on the revenue side—to balance the spending cuts we needed to raise additional revenues,” Hoyer said during a Capitol Hill pen and pad briefing with reporters on Friday. “We are now collecting revenues at about 15 percent and spending at about 22 percent of GDP [Gross Domestic Product].”
“You can’t do that for very long,” he said. “Even the richest country on the face of the earth can’t do that forever without having serious adverse consequences.”
“Almost everybody you speak to says you’ve got to bring those into balance,” Hoyer said.
However, when CNSNews.com asked the second-ranking Democrat in the House when the president will achieve that balance, Hoyer said he did not know.
Obama: Tax Hikes Mean ‘Scrooge Christmas’
By Rick Moran at PJ Media:
And guess which party he is accusing of playing Scrooge to his Santa Claus:
President Obama cast himself in the role of Santa Claus during a visit to a toy factory Friday, suggesting that Republican lawmakers should get only a lump of coal in their stockings if they don’t work with him this month to extend tax cuts for the middle class.
“I’ve been keeping my own naughty-and-nice list for Washington,” Obama told a crowd gathered on the factory floor of the Rodon Group facility, flanked by elaborate roller coasters and Ferris wheels built of Tinkertoys and K’Nex building toys. There will be some members of Congress who deserve toys this holiday season, he suggested, “and some who don’t.”
Obama didn’t leave the metaphor without conjuring up the image of Vice President Joe Biden in the White House playing with K’Nex, but the president’s message was more than evident by that point: If Republicans don’t extend the middle-class tax cuts, they’ll ruin the holiday.
The workshops and floors of the factory provided a vivid backdrop for the president’s event. As he spoke to about 350 employees and Democrats from the area, he stood near a giant American flag made of K’Nex and several elaborate toys made from the company’s building pieces.
The company has expanded its domestic operations in recent years, and the president cited Rodon officials as an example of an employer creating jobs in the U.S.
A dent in demand would hurt factories like Rodon’s as well as retailers all over the country, Obama said.
“That’s sort of like the lump of coal you get for Christmas,” he said. “That’s a Scrooge Christmas.”
Obama makes a lousy Santa. First of all, he’s not very jolly. Plus, his definition of “naughty” and “nice” leaves much to be desired. The president has been very naughty this past year, and especially the last few weeks as he tries to avoid the fiscal cliff. In fact, he is not negotiating. His proposal to raise taxes with unspecified cuts to the budget while borrowing $50 billion more for a “stimulus” package is so ridiculous that some Republicans laughed at it.
But Obama may have the last laugh after all. Once the GOP made it known they were open to tax increases, the president upped the ante, proposing $1.6 trillion in revenue over the next 10 years. This is far more than any Republican is willing to go and, coupled with the unspecified amount of budget cuts (of which entitlements are probably not on the table) and the positively bizarre notion of another stimulus package, the president has guaranteed that Republicans will not accept the deal.
Of course, the press is already blaming the GOP for being obstructionists — just as Obama knew they would. Ergo, Obama is sitting pretty while Republicans are scrambling to come up with some kind of a counteroffer. With time running out, the prospect of a significant breakthrough fades considerably.
Something that Santa had planned all along.
With All the Talk of Fiscal Cliffs the National Park Service Shuts Down All Scenic Overlooks
Washington, DC – (SatireWorld.com)
With pressure building from within Congress about a fiscal cliff, and concerns voiced by OSHA,
the US National Park service has temporarily closed all parks in the US with unfenced overlooks
citing the dangers to the public.
OSHA spokesperson Nancy Redcone, says a recent spate of party faithful falling from unfenced fall
offs has sparked the emergency ruling prompting the US National Park Service to close almost
700 parks to visitors until safety railing were in place.
A spokesman for the trial lawyers association, and member of the Dewey, Cheatumn, and Howe
law firm in Washington had this to say…”It’s a threat to all Americans when they blindly approach
the fiscal cliff especially when blinded by political theater and partisan politics.”
In recent weeks reports of ‘Democrat sheeple’ falling from unguarded overlooks has increased.
Many point to the euphoric distraction of an Obama second term seemingly blinding many visitors
which causing them to step out over the edge.
The National Park Service promises quick action to guard against catastrophe and has
awarded a contract to Larry’s Fence Service of Rome, Georgia to begin work on fencing the
complete edges of the Grand Canyon as the first project to forestall falling over cliffs problems.
Davis Axlegrease, an advisor to President Obama, says federal stimulus funds will be a used to
construct the safety barrier and monies will be pulled from fence projects on the US southern border
to facilitate safer national parks.
According to a statement released by Axlegrease…”We don’t want our well educated and
trained sheeple to fall over something as silly as a fiscal cliff, so your president will actually
save lives in the end.”
