Many nations, including the United States, are looking at a very grim fiscal future. This is largely a function of changing demographics and poorly-designed entitlement programs. Simply stated, a massive welfare state is a recipe for budgetary disaster when there is a shrinking number of workers and an increasing number of people expecting money from the government.
We are witnessing evidence of where this leads. The fiscal chaos in nations such as Greece and Italy is simply the tip of the iceberg. In the absence of reform, it is just a matter of time before countries like France and Japan are hit by crisis. And the United States may not be far behind.
