I Freaking Hate Hosting Companies

Just a quickie rant here. I say hosting companies (plural) but this is for one particular hosting company. In fact, it is the hosting company that hosted Iowadawg.com until I moved it to a better host company (who I hope never messes me up and become yet another host company I hate…hhahahahahaha). So here is the scenario:

I have four (4) blogs still hosted at this company. Been with them for over a year. Minor problems here and there, but nothing like what happened this week. First it started off a week or two ago where my blogs would take longer and longer to come up. Where I would be posting and when I hit publish, just hang and then stop. This was an on and off problem. Seemed to happen mostly in the morning. Well, the other day, it was like I could not do any posting, my sites would take forever to come up. Email sent off (because their own site was hanging when I tried their ticket support). Answer came back that they were having problems with the server. And that it looked like they would have to replace the hard drive. So I asked how long will this take, how long will my sites by down. Reply was about 6 hours when they started the process. But they could move my blogs to a new server if I did not want the downtime or wait for them to replace the hard drive. Now this is where I screwed up royally! I did not make backups to my computer of my blogs!! I just said, move to new servers. They gave me new DNS, and got all the blogs set up with new DNS. Well, the process was okay. So I thought.

Later that evening, my sites were completely whacko! No admin side, no recent pictures showing, links not working right. I checked and saw that a lot of the folders and files were missing on two of the blogs. Email sent. Next morning, all right with the world again. So I thought! And again, I should have done the backups then. But did not. And here comes an email. Got the server hard drive in, all works great, do you want to go back to this server? I said no, leave me where I am. And blam…problems again! Somehow, and this is me thinking, in the move from one server to the other, some folders and files were either corrupted or not moved. But since everything was now on two different servers, the blogs would be okay, but actually drawing from either or server. So when they told me, okay, since you are on this server, we will delete your blogs from the other server. This was yesterday evening. And BAM! Blogs screwed up again, royally. Email sent and I said, I will see in the morning. Well, this morning, blogs are up but dammit, they are missing 3 days to 17 days of posts! Yes, each blog was either missing the past 4 days of posting or the entire month of February posts! So, email sent again. They are checking and checking. But I think the records they have are screwed up and they just plain lost all those posts in the move, then someone probably tried to move it back, and then this was deleted, etc.

So, at present? I can not view my blogs! Yet I can see the old version if I use a proxy site. I cleared history, cookies and the important cache. Nope, no blogs! Keep getting (just tried now) a ‘server not found’. Crap and double crap! Now, I made backups today, but they are the old records, meaning one blog has nothing for the past 4 days, two blogs have nothing from January 30th, and one blog is missing maybe a weeks posting. My thinking on this now? Iwill calm down and see what happens tomorrow and Sunday. I see nothing, or I get the blogs up but with all those missing posts? Then Sunday I will start the process to move them to a new host company! And start up those 4 blogs with a big gap between postings!

I freaking hate host companies, having to host blogs, and anything else when my blogs go down for no damn reason!

And how is your day coming along?

Lin-sanity has broken out all over the world. The kid nobody in the NBA wanted, from an ethnic group about as associated with the NBA as bullfighters are with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, had just broken Shaquille O’Neal’s league record for the most points in his first five games as a starter. Adoring fans are holding up signs saying “To Lin-finity and beyond.” The Lin-ternet has broken under the strain of millions of tweets, many of them featuring even worse puns than “Lin-ternet.” Sports Illustrated put him on its cover.

And, of course, Asian-Americans are going wild.

I’m one of them. As a half-Japanese, half-white ex-jock, I’ve always followed and rooted for that tiny number of Asian-Americans who make it in any of my three favorite sports, the all-American Big Three of football, basketball and baseball. (There are lots of Asian baseball players, but not many Asian-Americans.) Half-Japanese players get even more points. The triumphs of Olympic speed skater Apolo Ohno had me feeling my half-breed oats. And when former Giants’ hurler Atlee Hammaker, a hapa like me, melted down in the 1987 playoffs, my inner mulatto got a lot more tragic.

There’s no great mystery why I root for Asian-American jocks. It’s the same reason any member of a minority group pulls for one of their own: racial pride and solidarity. There are so damn few of “us” in the big leagues (I’m an “us” with an asterisk) that when one makes it, it’s cause for celebration.

In Julian Assange’s exclusive interview with RT he discusses everything from the uprisings in MENA, to his extradition fight, the Guantanamo and US Cable files, his relationship with The Guardian and The New York Times, global political youth movements, the current state of mainstream media and Bradley Manning.

He famously warns that social media and in particularly Facebook, Google, Yahoo are among the greatest spy machines ever invented. Once again Mr. Assange demonstrates his intelligence, authenticity and consciousness.

The man behind WikiLeaks says his website’s revelations are just the tip of the iceberg. It is only a matter of time before more damaging information becomes known.

“It’s not a matter of serving a subpoena, they have an interface they have developed for US Intelligence to use. Now, is the case that Facebook is run by US Intelligence? No, it’s not like that. It’s simply that US Intelligence is able to bring to bear legal and political pressure to them.”

(Reuters) – Catholic bishops, energized by a battle over contraception funding, are planning an aggressive campaign to rally Americans against a long list of government measures which they say intrude on religious liberty.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops plans to work with other religious groups, including evangelical Christians, on an election-year public relations campaign that may include TV and radio ads, social media marketing and a push for pastors and priests to raise the subject from the pulpit.

“We want to make it something that will get peoples’ attention,” said Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport, Conn.

The bishops spent the past few weeks pressing President Barack Obama to exempt religious employers from a federal mandate that all health insurance plans offer free birth control.

Along with the Southern Baptist Convention, the National Association of Evangelicals stands ready to contribute money and manpower to the bishops’ campaign, said Galen Carey, an association vice president.

The group is also considering the unprecedented step of asking pastors of every evangelical denomination across the country to read their congregations an open letter protesting the contraception mandate as an assault on religious liberty.

(about time the church got totally political!)

Having swept into majorities in Egypt’s parliament, a Muslim Brotherhood spokesman is making it clear the group has ambitions far beyond Cairo.

“Concerning the Islamic caliphate, this is our dream, and we hope to achieve it, even after centuries,” Brotherhood spokesman Mahmoud Ghuzlan told Egypt’s Ahram news outlet in an interview Sunday. “It is the right of the Brotherhood that this is one of the pillars of its strategy. We are not concerned about the renaissance of the group only. Rather our first goal is the renaissance of Egypt, then the Arab world and then the Islamic world. This will come gradually.”

Ghuzlan’s statement echoes comments Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohammed Badie made during a speech in late December. In it, Badie explained Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna’s original agenda remains intact. “It begins with the reform of the individual and then to start building the family and society, then the government; then the rightly guided caliphate, then instructing the world; instructing guidance, wisdom, truth and justice.”

Neither Badie’s comments nor Ghuzlan’s interview have been picked up by American news media.

(LA Times) — The Fox News commentator who said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) should “step away from the crack pipe” referring to remarks she made about House Republican leaders said his comments were a joke. But the Los Angeles County Democratic Party didn’t find it very funny.

Rep. Waters, a Democrat representing parts of Los Angeles, was a topic of conversation on Thursday’s edition of the Fox News morning newscast “Fox and Friends,” because of a speech in which she called House Republic leadership “demons.”

That riled up commentator Eric Bolling. “Congresswoman, you saw what happened to Whitney Houston,” he said. “Step away from the crack pipe, step away from the Xanax, step away from the Lorazepam, because it’s going to get you in trouble.”

The show’s hosts were caught by surprise and gasped. After the show returned from a commercial break, Bolling said it was a joke. “I just want to say I was kidding about the crack pipe,” he said. “Just kidding.”

Eric C. Bauman, chairman of the L.A. County Democratic Party, called for the network to remove Bolling, condemning his remarks as, at best, “insensitive and inappropriate” and a “horribly offensive characterization of a longtime member of Congress.”

“At worst,” he said in a statement, “Bolling’s comment oozes racism, which serves to discredit a strong African American woman by perpetrating racial stereotypes. Regardless of whether this remark was deliberate or offhand — it was irresponsible, despicable and reprehensible.”

(again with the damn race card! funny, the liberals can do this to conservatives, yet they scream when it is reversed!)

Some Problems with my blogs

Argh….on another host company, got two blogs that are not up! So far, nothing from the company. Here is the scenario.

Yesterday, the blogs hosted by this company were again either damn slow in coming up, or just timed out. So I sent an email to them (could not use their ticket system because their site timed out!). Got a reply shortly saying that they were having problems and they finally found that it was the hard drive on the server going bad. So they gave me a choice, either wait for them to put in the new hard drive (meaning my blogs would be down for around 6 hours or so) or they would move my blogs to another server and with no down time. Well, guess which option I picked? Yep, move to new server. Which they did right away (I did have to point the blogs to the new server, no problem).

Now here is the problem. I did not check two of the blogs to see if they were okay! Yep, last night, I just updated two blogs and no problems. So naturally, even though the other two blogs I did not have to update, I just took it for granted they were up and running. Well, probably not! This morning, went to one blog to update and got error messages all over the map! Went to the other blog to update, same thing! Now the other two blogs were running okay and I could update them with no problem. Everyone on the internet can visit these two blogs. But the other two, no one can see and all one will get are error messages! So email to the host company. Nothing yet from them 4 hours later.

I checked and found that files were missing from these two blogs. Okay I say to myself, I will fix that pronto. Did that on one blog and it works great, except for one big problem. I can not get into the admin site! It views great, everything works, visitors will never see anything wrong. Now been thinking of my various options with wordpress. Like which files can I delete and re-add, in hopes that the admin side will come back up. So after I am done posting on this blog (iowadawg.com is with an entirely different hosting company) will work on one blog to see if my thinking is correct and I can fix it. If not, damn!

Because I forgot one minor thing last night…I forgot to make complete backups of my blogs BEFORE okaying them to move my blogs! So if I use the old backups, I will lose about a month’s worth of posts! Yes, saw that I had not made a single back up in the past 4 weeks! My bad!!!!

Anyways, hoping all comes up okay when I do what I want to do to get those two blogs back up and running.

Now Planned Parenthood bullies Catholic food bank for saying no to them…

February 15, 2012 (Bound4Life.com) – One thing we learned from the Komen/Planned Parenthood fiasco is that it may be easier to say no to the mob than Planned Parenthood. We saw it again recently in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This one didn’t make much news, but created a local social network bully fest.

Planned Parenthood called Paul’s Pantry, part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the biggest food pantry in Wisconsin, and asked them to come and pick up donations, which may have been noble, but wasn’t something the Catholic organization felt comfortable doing — sending a truck over and perhaps giving the abortion provider a photo opportunity. The American Life League reports what the worker at the pantry said:

All I told the young lady from Planned Parenthood was that I couldn’t send a truck to pick up, and gave her a list of other food pantries that might want to pick up, I gave her no reason at all and she didn’t ask why. Soon after, I started receiving the hate e-mail and phone calls. I politely explained to callers that although we are non-denominational in regards to those we serve, we are a Catholic organization who shares a board of directors with our sister organization, St. Vincent de Paul. We adhere to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and to the Rule of St. Vincent de Paul. I also explained our Gift Acceptance Policy and how acceptance of the donation would compromise our core values and possibly damage the reputation of Paul’s Pantry.

As with Komen, choice wasn’t okay with Planned Parenthood, and within a short amount of time, verbal abuse rolled in. Jill Stanek reports that a worker at Paul’s Pantry explained:

“Within 20 minutes I was getting phone calls and emails calling us [names]. The calls that day came from the Milwaukee area, where Planned Parenthood is headquartered. We have caller ID.”

[He] said he did tell one of the callers they could simply drop off their donation, “which happens about 100 times a day – in that case we don’t know where the food comes from. But if an organization wants a receipt, Paul’s Pantry has a gift acceptance policy. “If the donation is going to hurt us, we don’t accept it.”

Craig said it never got to that point with Planned Parenthood, though. PP invented the rest of the story. “What was their purpose?” asked Paul. “If they really intended to feed the poor they should have just dropped the food off and left it at that. But was it for their own self-promotion?”

The abuse didn’t stop there, though. First, Planned Parenthood broadcast it to their Facebook page on February 2:

Pissed off at being shot down over their “global warming” hype supposedly leading to rising ocean levels through receding glaciers, the eco-freak, twig eating, tofu farting;, lily livered, Prius driving, America-hating, bleeding heart liberal, blinkered, Starbucks drinking, elitist, can’t-we-all-just-get-along, granola eating, namby-pamby, Birkenstock wearing, tree hugging, long haired, pansy-assed, kumbaya-singing, Earth First, bed-wetting, patchouli wearing, dirty, smelly, dope smoking, bongo playing, arm pit haired women and feminized, armpit shaved men cryin “Mother Earth is Gaia” tortured artiste types are now trotting out another line of garbage to justify their existence: GLOBAL WARMING STARTED WITH THE CAVEMEN!

Personally, I think we’d stop the global warming threats with one simple move: institutionalize all the scientists who advocate global warming. Straight jackets and gags work really well.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — In one room, a ghastly photo wall of bloody, uncensored images showcases the mob’s greatest hits.

In another, visitors are taught to load a revolver. And for when a gun just won’t do, an oddball collection of household items — a shovel, a hammer, a baseball bat and an icepick — show the creative side of some of America’s most notorious killers.

On the 83rd anniversary of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, Sin City is honoring one of its earliest relationships with the grand opening of a museum dedicated to the mobsters that made this desert town. There are tommy guns, money stacks and a bullet-riddled brick wall from the 1929 massacre that saw Al Capone seize control of the Chicago mob.

Las Vegas has long been enamored with its gangster roots. Its longtime former mayor played himself in the mob flick “Casino” and hotels here often promote their nefarious origins. But the publicly funded, $42 million Mob Museum represents a new height in Sin City’s lawlessness devotion. Even the local FBI agents are in on it.

“We wanted to make sure the truth came out,” said Ellen Knowlton, a former special agent in Las Vegas brought on to legitimize the downtown attraction.

It’s the second mob-themed attraction to open in Las Vegas in the past year. The Mob Experience at the Tropicana casino on the Las Vegas Strip quickly shut down because of slow ticket sales and other problems. It’s slated to reopen later this year under the name Mob Attraction Las Vegas.

City officials said their version will perform better because it’s an authentic examination of the decisions and circumstances that made Las Vegas an international symbol of debauchery and excess. The museum is housed in a former Depression-era federal courthouse where the seventh of 14 U.S. Senate hearings on organized crime was held in the early 1950s. The proceedings watched by 30 million people introduced the mob to most Americans.

But critics argue the government-backed attraction is a waste of tax dollars at a time when Nevada tops the nation in foreclosures and unemployment.

“It’s a risky bet,” said Andy Matthews, president of the conservative Nevada Policy Research Institute, which protested the museum during its grand opening ceremony Tuesday.

Nevadans and mobsters have a long, storied history.

Casino workers and longtime visitors alike are known to wax nostalgic about the days when mob bosses kept drink prices low and streets violence free. Their casinos became celebrity playgrounds and architectural icons. The Stardust, El Cortez, Tropicana, Dunes Hotel, Desert Inn, Flamingo and Fremont hotel were all backed by the mob at one point. Elvis and Priscilla Presley tied the knot at the mob-controlled Aladdin resort and Wayne Newton later purchased it.

More recently, Las Vegans thrice made former mob attorney Oscar Goodman their mayor. And when he was term-limited from running again last year, they gave the job to his wife.

A patron of the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas went all literal on employeesand had to be carted out of the restaurant on a gurney by EMTs.

The establishment where customers over 350 pounds eat for free and a sign on the wall reads “a taste worth dying for” is known for serving 6,000 calorie burgers stacked high with cheese and bacon.

The unidentified man, who was in the process of scrafing down a Triple Bypass Burger, began sweating and shaking profusely, prompting one of the nurse-themed waitresses to alert the restaurant’s proprietor, “Doctor” Jon Basso.

“One of the nurses came back to me and said, ‘Dr. Jon, we’ve got a patient who’s in trouble,” said Basso. As Fox 5 Vegas deemed it necessary to note, “Doctor” Jon is not a real doctor, so he phoned 911 and told them to send an ambulance.

“I actually felt horrible for the gentleman because the tourists were taking photos of him as if it were some type of stunt,” Basso told Fox 5. “Even with our own morbid sense of humor, we would never pull a stunt like that.”

He said this was the first real heart attack the Heart Attack Grill has experienced.

Meanwhile, the “patient” is reportedly “alive and recuperating.”

Wired leftist Spencer Ackerman:

An internal FBI investigation into its counterterrorism training has purged hundreds of bureau documents of instructional material about Muslims, some of which characterized them as prone to violence or terrorism.

The bureau disclosed initial findings from its months-long review during a meeting at FBI headquarters on Wednesday with several Arab and Muslim advocacy groups, attended by Director Robert Mueller. So far, the inquiry has uncovered and purged over 700 pages of documentation from approximately 300 presentations given to agents since 9/11 — some of which were similar to briefings published by Danger Room last year describing “mainstream” Muslims as “violent.” And more discoveries may be forthcoming, as the FBI continues its inquiry and responds to Freedom of Information Act requests for the documents themselves.

FBI spokesman Christopher Allen confirms to Danger Room that the bureau found some of the documents to be objectionable because they were inaccurate or over-broad, others because they were offensive. Allen explains that the documents represent “less than 1 percent” of over 160,000 documents reviewed by the inquiry, which was prompted by a Danger Room investigation in September. The FBI purged documents according to four criteria: “factual errors”; “poor taste”; employment of “stereotypes” about Arabs or Muslims; or presenting information that “lacked precision.” [...]

But the FBI isn’t finished. The bureau plans to publish a “touchstone document” in the coming weeks that explains its criteria to ensure new anti-Islam documents won’t enter counterterrorism training in the future. Similarly, the Justice Department plans on March 21 to release “Cultural Competency” guidelines for dealing with Arab and Muslim communities on counterterrorism, according to Xochitl Hinojosa, a department spokeswoman.

(see, political correctness done entirely wrong! and yet, who in our congress will fight this shit?)

Gallup: “U.S. small-business owners who aren’t hiring — 85% of those surveyed — are most likely to say the reasons they are not doing so include not needing additional employees; worries about weak business conditions, including revenues; cash flow; and the overall U.S. economy. Additionally, nearly half of small-business owners point to potential healthcare costs (48%) and government regulations (46%) as reasons. One in four are not hiring because they worry they may not be in business in 12 months.”
