gasoline

And the Cold is here and going to get Colder

Well, I hope everyone in Iowa has enjoyed their spring-like winter. No snow, once in a while some cool temperatures, even dipping below zero at night. But all together, we have had a very unusual winter this year. I mean, just how often in Iowa can someone grill outdoors in shorts and t-shirt? And like all good things, it is coming to an end very damn fast!

This morning wife went to the grocery store (yes, she just up and left without me). When she came back, we went first to the bank (to open a new savings account) and then I dropped her off home while I went to St. Charles to get a new faucet aerator. The temperature was 44F and sun shining. Well real quick after I got home? The wind picked up, the sun got clouded over real heavy, and the temp started dropping. I am showing right now 32F out there. And due to drop to like 16F tonight. And that may even be our high for tomorrow!

Plus snow forecasted for this evening, tonight and tomorrow. Just about one inch or so they say is all we will get. Wife had appointment to get her hair done tomorrow afternoon. She decided, not going to take the chance on how the weather is tomorrow or the road conditions. Got it changed to next week. Hopefully will be better weather.

And in anticipation of this weather for the next few days, and that they say the prices of gasoline should go up any day now, I stopped in at the Kum & Go up the street and filled up the van. Gas still there at $3.08 a gallon. To think of this, it is the first time this year I have gone there to get gas! And last year? Probably can count on one hand how many times I went there. Not a big fan of Kum & Go, as usually the prices for gasoline a lot higher than going into Des Moines, Osceola, etc.

And a few minutes ago, discovered something you may want to keep in mind. A drop of vanilla in my mug of coffee was a drop too much. Just either too much, or not enough, but the coffee has a weird taste of vanilla to it. Not going to do this again! Will stick with cinnamon.

Last night, read the manual on the new digital video camera we got. Needs a SD card, max of 8gb. So ordered one from Amazon. Shipping was more than the card price! $3.59 for the card, $4.99 for the shipping! Geesh, But should be here hopefully Saturday.

Damn! I need to use the new video camera doing stuff like the above! Just need to find some sexy women.

Can you believe a simple copper coin, a penny, sold for $1.38 million? WOW!

A once-cent copper coin from the earliest days of the US Mint in 1793 has sold for a record $1.38 million at a Florida auction.

James Halperin of Texas-based Heritage Auctions told The Associated Press on Saturday that the sale was ‘the most a United States copper coin has ever sold for at auction.’

The coin was made at the Mint in Philadelphia in 1793, the first year that the US made its own coins.
1793 penny

Heritage officials said in a news release that the name of the buyer was not revealed but that he was ‘a major collector.’ One of the coin’s earliest owners was a well-known Baltimore banker, Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.

‘Mr. Eliasberg was nicknamed, “the king of coins” because before his death in 1976 he assembled a collection that consisted of at least one example of every coin ever made at the United States Mint, a feat never duplicated,’ Halperin said in the news release.

The FDA has placed a temporary ban on the importation of orange juice after trace amounts of a fungicide linked to liver tumors were found in OJ from Brazil.

The South American country supplies the States with 41 percent of its imported OJ.

Additionally, some domestic products have imported juice mixed in, meaning containers could be pulled off the shelf and destroyed if tests for carpendazim — a chemical not approved from use on US crops — come back positive.

The FDA promised to “take the necessary action to ensure that the product is removed from the market” if found to be dangerous. However, there is nothing much to be done about the millions of potentially contaminated gallons of OJ already consumed by Americans.

Despite the disconcerting move and the subsequent price spike, the EPA and FDA both sought to assuage fears that citizens have been exposed to harmful toxins.

“Based on monitoring data provided to EPA by FDA, the EPA has no reason to expect that residues of carbenzadim in oranges grown in Brazil would ever approach levels that would raise safety concerns,” said EPA spokesman Dale Kemery in a statement.

Test results are due back this week.

(what is wrong with getting more and more of our food from outside our borders. but hey, the OJ industry says there is more than enough OJ on hand so that the prices should not rise for some time.)

They were all heard to be praying (or praising?) Fatman Gore, with chants of “Oh holy gore, we do this in your name!”

FRESNO, California (AP) — Authorities in California are looking into animal rights activists’ claims that they caused the fire that destroyed 14 big-rig tractors and several trailers at the state’s biggest beef processor.

Activists claimed responsibility for the fire at Harris Farms in an email released by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. The email includes a detailed description of the containers of accelerant and kerosene-soaked rope activists claim they used to set the blaze.

Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman Chris Curtice said Tuesday that investigators are looking into the claim, among several other leads.

Lastly, why is this guy still in our country? How in the hell did he come up with the money for a lawyer, get a valid social security card and a job?

Damn, that’s right! This is the muslim-in-chief’s dirtbag uncle!

Obama uncle seeks police officer’s driving record…

A lawyer for President Barack Obama’s uncle, an illegal immigrant who is charged with drunken driving, says he will ask prosecutors to turn over the driving record of the police officer who stopped him.

Onyango Obama, the half brother of the president’s late father, was charged with drunken driving in Framingham in August after he allegedly rolled through a stop sign and nearly caused a police cruiser to strike his SUV.

Obama’s lawyer said Wednesday that he will ask prosecutors for Officer Val Krishtal’s driving record. A court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

I took a chance and lost out

Yes, I took a chance on the price of gasoline by not filling up yesterday, instead waiting until today when we went to Des Moines.

Yesterday morning we stopped in Osceola on the way back from Missouri. Kum and Go was at $2.95 driving into town to Fareway to do our grocery shopping. Told wife, will fill up on the way out of town. Well, not even an hour later after leaving Fareway, guess what? The new price of gasoline at Kum and Go was $3.05! So I did not stop in there. Driving further to the interstate, Casey’s was still at $2.99 per gallon. Again, bypassed it and continued on home.

After putting up the groceries and taking care of a few things, like taking our dog outside, we went back down to Osceola to the Lakeside Casino. The new Pilot station at the casino was at $2.99. Told wife, after we are done with lunch and a little gambling, on the way out will stop and fill up if still at $2.99 a gallon. We had an excellent lunch with some great smoked brisket (something not usually found in Iowa) and did a bit of slot playing (don’t ask, we lost). So on the way out, saw the price was still at $2.99 but the pumps were all filled up and there were people in line for any open pump. So said heck with waiting, we will take a chance tomorrow morning (today) that the price in Des Moines will be the same or lower.

Well, this morning driving into Des Moines the gas was at $3.09 at every station, from Casey’s to QT to Love to Pilot to Kum and Go. Dammit! So after visiting with our Aunt Louise (we go visit her every friday morning) we stopped in at Applebee’s for lunch. Then to Casey’s and yes, I lost out as price was still $3.09. Filled the van up.

Told wife, lesson learned yet again! When gas is low, buy.

On June 17, 2010, Denver police officer Derrick Curtis Saunders was arrested for speeding and driving under the influence. Before he was pulled over, he was driving at 143 mph in a 55-mph zone. That’s 88 miles an hour more than the speed limit. His blood-alcohol level was 0.089 percent, slightly higher than the 0.08 legal limit.

Appropriately, the Denver Police Department dismissed him. (A judge also sentenced him to five days in jail, fined him $300 and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.) Now, Saunders would like his job back — and the Denver Police Protection Association stands ready to help him.

Saunders — with the help of the union — filed an appeal to the Denver Civil Service Commission to request his job back. The Denver Post reports:

Saunders’ appeal to the Denver Civil Service Commission asserts that Martinez’s findings and penalties are “unfounded and/or unsupported by the facts” and violate principles of fundamental fairness.

I love to see photos like this! I hunt around the various astronomy sites to see pictures like this of our universe. Nasa always has excellent pictures.

Explanation: M78 isn’t really hiding in planet Earth’s night sky. About 1,600 light-years away and nestled in the nebula rich constellation Orion, the large, bright, reflection nebula is well-known to telescopic skygazers. But this gorgeous image of M78 was selected as the winner of the Hidden Treasures 2010 astrophotography competition. Held by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the competition challenged amateur astronomers to process data from ESO’s astronomical archive in search of cosmic gems. The winning entry shows off amazing details within bluish M78 (center) embraced in dark, dusty clouds, along with a smaller reflection nebula in the region, NGC 2071 (top). Yellowish and even more compact, the recently discovered, variable McNeil’s Nebula is prominent in the scene below and right of center. Based on data from ESO’s WFI camera and 2.2 meter telescope at La Silla, Chile, this image spans just over 0.5 degrees on the sky. That corresponds to 15 light-years at the estimated distance of M78.

George Bush and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop.

As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Obama in his chair reached for the aftershave. Obama was quick to stop him saying, ‘No thanks, my wife Michelle will smell that and think I’ve been in a whorehouse.’

The second barber turned to Bush and said, ‘How about you, sir ?’ Bush replied, ‘Go ahead. My wife doesn’t know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.’

(I laughed. How about you?)

Voters right now give the edge to Republicans when asked which political party is likely to win the White House and control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in next November’s elections. Republicans are more confident about their party’s chances than Democrats are, but a lot of voters are undecided.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters think the Republican candidate is most likely to beat President Obama, while 39% expect the incumbent to win reelection. Fourteen percent (14%) are not sure.

In 2008, the youth vote helped sweep Barack Obama into office. Americans 18-29 spread the word on social media, energized fundraising and went to the polls.

In 2012, the youth vote is moving on and throwing those omnipresent “Hope” bumper stickers and t-shirts in garbage bins.

Not because of apathy. Not because another candidate generates more enthusiasm. Not because of his character. Not because they think voting is pointless. The 18-29 vote is up for grabs in 2012 because youth can’t afford cars to put bumper stickers on and those t-shirts are worn out from too many days sitting on the couch unemployed.

The sobering reality: just 55.3 percent of Americans between 16 and 29 have jobs. And earlier this year, Americans’ student loan debt surpassed credit card debt for the first time ever.

Rather than develop a lasting initiative to help young unemployed Americans, the President launched “Greater Together” — a campaign tool that offers community forums rather than jobs. Rather than provide a bailout to those crushed by the burden of educational loans, his student debt relief program was pathetic — only reducing interest rates by a measly 0.5 percent.

No wonder less than half of Americans 18-29 approve of Obama.

It’s no surprise the President is ignoring millenials.  They’re too poor to donate to his campaign this election cycle.  Older Americans are 47 times richer than the young – a striking generational gap in prosperity that has widened from a 10 to 1 ratio when Ronald Reagan was running for reelection in 1984.  At the same time, Obama is ringing up donations from older voters.  In the first 10 months of 2011, he attended 58 fundraisers – twice the number President George W. Bush attended during the comparable period before his reelection.  That’s overkill when the GOP candidate is still TBD.

(so, the bottom line is that the liberals, at CNN, believe only by Obama eliminating student loans and giving these people lots of money, can things change around. Pathetic)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two out-of-state doctors who traveled to Maryland to perform late-term abortions have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder under the state’s viable fetus law, authorities said.

Dr. Steven Brigham, of Voorhees, N.J., was taken into custody Wednesday night and is being held in the Camden County jail, according to police in Elkton, Md. Authorities also arrested Dr. Nicola Riley in Salt Lake City and she is in jail in Utah. Each is awaiting an extradition hearing.

The two doctors were indicted by a grand jury after a 16-month investigation, police said.

The investigation began in August 2010 after a botched procedure at Brigham’s Elkton clinic. An 18-year-old woman who was 21 weeks pregnant had her uterus ruptured and her bowel injured, and rather than call 911, Brigham and Riley drove her to a nearby hospital, where both were uncooperative and Brigham refused to give his name, authorities said.

A search of the clinic after the botched abortion revealed a freezer with 35 late-term fetuses inside, including one believed to have been aborted at 36 weeks, authorities said.

Brigham, 55, is charged with five counts of first-degree murder, five counts of second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy. Riley, 46, faces one count each of first- and second-degree murder and one conspiracy count.

(these are not doctors, they are money grubbers who got caught at murder, pure and simple!)

(CNSNews.com) — The Web site for GOP primary contender Mitt Romney is seeking donations with a drawing: Donate $1 or more to his presidential campaign and you will get a chance to spend election night in New Hampshire with the former Massachusetts governor.

“Here’s the deal,” the text reads on the home page. “For every dollar you donate, you will receive an entry to win. So if you donate $10, you’ll get 10 entries.”

You have to read the small print at the bottom of the page, however, to get the details on the “deal,” including the obligatory legal requirement that individuals can be entered for a chance to win without making a donation. You are required to enter a donation amount, even if it is “0” to be in the lottery.

The small print also reveals that the value of the first prize is approximately $975 — one round-trip coach class plane ticket in the continental United States to Manchester, N.H., a one-night hotel stay in Manchester, and ground transportation.

The winner must also be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia, and be at least 18 years old.

Once a donation is made, visitors to the Web site are taken to another page where the necessary information can be inputted to complete the process, including credit card information and your occupation and employer (the latter is required by federal law, the text states).

“Be a part of history. Be there with Mitt” is the headline on this page. “On Jan. 10th, history will be made in the first-in-the-nation primary state as voters cast their ballot,” the text states. “And one of you will be there to witness it all in person with Mitt.”

“Many of you have stood by Mitt from the beginning by donating your time, money and support,” the text states. “Election Night will be a great moment to celebrate all of your hard work.”

(seems like the desperate people use these raffles. See Obama and the DNC begging for $3 constantly via email to their entire base. my advice is simple: save your money for something important, like another box of ammo for your weapons)

Oh, as a registered Republican, I am wide open to the party to email me and phone me. Emails none. But phone calls? Those damn robo-calls are stepping up the pace now as the caucus is next Tuesday. Today I recorded just this afternoon and up to the present time 21 damn calls! I or my wife do not answer them. Just ignore them. Which at some point must be pissing somebody or a few somebodies off wondering why our number is never answered. Hell, these calls even come on Sunday! If it were live people making these phone calls, I would answer and tell them exactly what I think and what they should be doing and not doing and you should not be wasting time calling people just to piss them off.
