NCAS Report on Frank Gehry’s Eisenhower Memorial

Raining nice outside. Been raining at a nice steady pace since early this morning. Did this rain stop us from going to the gym? Heck no! We went at our regular time, and did our workout, then came home at our regular time. Though I at the time had a bad crick or pinched nerve or something on my left shoulder. The workout seemed to have taken care of that though. I am feeling good! Tomorrow though, no gym time! Dammit. Not really dammit, it is our weekly trip to Des Moines to visit with our Aunt Louise. Then stop somewhere to get more some more work out clothes. And lunch, got to have lunch!

Funny wife I have! Yesterday I said real sweetly “honey, want to go somewhere for dinner? pick a place, any place. And you can pay using some of your winnings from the casino the other day”. Geesh! You would of thought I poked her with a cattle prod! She looked at me (and if looks could kill?) and said no way! You won more than me, so you pay! We did not go out for dinner…hahahahhahaa

The Gehry Towers Over Eisenhower:

The National Civic Art Society Report on Frank Gehry’s Eisenhower Memorial

By Justin Shubow

Executive Summary

  • The Eisenhower family opposes Frank Gehry’s design for the Memorial.  The president’s grandson, the family’s sole representative on the Memorial Commission, has resigned from the Commission.
  • The Memorial competition was secretive, exclusive, elitist, and undemocratic—if it was a true competition at all.  Only 44 entries were solicited.  This is hundreds fewer than the number of entries submitted in previous national memorial competitions, which were open to all.
  • An unknown, unconnected designer could not have won, let alone even entered, the competition.  It was thanks to America’s openness to talent that Eisenhower was able to rise to the presidency from a humble background.  The Memorial competition should have been equally open.
  • The Memorial’s only statue of Eisenhower depicts him as a life-size barefoot young boy, a shrinky-dink tikey Ikey.  It is a travesty that cuts a great man down to size.  Giving Eisenhower the boy treatment would be unthinkable were Eisenhower around to defend himself.
  • The design of the boy Eisenhower statue is being advised by Charles Ray, an artist whose work sexualizes children and is obscene.
  • The statue of Ike as a Kansas farmer-boy is sentimental kitsch.    This Happy McMonument does not befit a statesman who defeated the Nazis and who preserved America’s peace and prosperity.  Leadership is not child’s play.
  • The Memorial design has contained benches spelling out “IXXI,” the Roman numerals for 9 and 11.  Whether this reference to the 9/11 attacks was intentional or negligent, the Memorial’s architect, Frank Gehry, can no longer be trusted with its design.
  • In 2003, Gehry refused to help design a replacement for the Twin Towers since he was not offered enough money.  That alone makes Gehry unworthy of Eisenhower, who exemplified selfless public service.
  • The void at the heart of the Memorial makes it a temple to nothingness.  It is a hollow temple, not a hallowed one.
  • The Memorial’s crooked-appearing “columns” and tangled “tapestries” do not befit Eisenhower’s upright virtue.
  • The Memorial’s titanic “columns” tower over the puny Ike statute.  The result is a Leviathan Memorial swallowing a small-fry Eisenhower.  The behemoth commemorates Gehry’s ego, not Eisenhower’s greatness and humility.
  • Eisenhower would be disgusted at the planning and design of his Memorial.  As he lamented in 1962, “What has happened to our concept of beauty and decency and morality?”

(NY Daily News) — This Occupy Wall Street protester is definitely not among the 1% — of brightest Americans.

John Scott DeKuyper arrived for a Wednesday court hearing at the wrong building while carrying a Colt .45 pistol in his leather backpack, police and court officials said.

DeKuyper, 53, was also toting cartridges for the unloaded handgun in his bag when he was handcuffed at the weapon screening area inside 100 Centre St. around 11:30 a.m.

The Lewes, Del., resident said he was licensed to carry the weapon in another state before adding this was “the stupidest thing he’d ever done,” said Lt. Pete Dolan.

Or maybe it was in the top two.

DeKuyper was first arrested last Oct. 15 while trying to yank the badge off the shirt of NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito during a Times Square rally, according to a criminal complaint.

DeKuyper was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and attempted grand larceny. He was supposed to be at 346 Broadway for that hearing.

He was held on $50,000 cash bail Wednesday on the gun charge.

The Mayor of a major US City has an army at his disposal (his words), which includes the ability to bring down a suspect airliner (the words of his police chief).

This Mayor has fielded an Intelligence apparatus that probably rivals the capabilities of most nation-states.

This Mayor is hostile toward most of the ideals embodied in the DoI, Constitution and Bill of Rights. He gives them lip service, but his actions reveal the Tyrant.

Very little was made of recent reports about this Mayor using the intelligence capability of his army beyond the borders of his city, indeed, beyond his State. MSM made little of it. The Right made even less of it. And our own community didn’t choose to address it much.

Of course I am talking about Mayor Bloomberg of New York City.

Do you think, for a moment, that his Intel gathering is limited to Muslims? Do you think the point-man for MAIG probably has already GPS’d the homes of every gun owner, Republican and Patriot in the same region?

KABUL (BHN) Thousand of Muslims in Afghanistan continue to riot after Afghan laborers found charred copies of the Koran while collecting rubbish at Bagram Airbase.

In an effort to prevent this type of situation from happening again, non-Muslims are asked to observe the following Islamic rules for proper Koran disposal:

  • Never burn the Koran on the ground – this is considered an insult to the Islamic faith. Always burn the Koran on a plate or in a receptacle.
  • Always burn the Koran by itself or with the Hadith – never with other rubbish.
  • When disposing of the Koran in a toilet be careful to not defecate on the sacred book as it is forbidden. Urinating on the Koran is acceptable, but only if you have not been drinking alcohol.
  • When using a discarded Koran as an absorbent in a cat box, the above rules don’t apply, as the sacred text has no meaning for cats, and they have little control over where they poop.

Just our PATHETIC president kissing islamic ass yet again!

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – The Afghan president’s office says it has received a letter from President Obama formally apologizing for the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.

The statement from President Hamid Karzai’s office says the U.S. ambassador delivered the letter on Thursday.

In the letter, which is quoted in the statement, Obama expresses his “deep regret for the reported incident” and offers his “sincere apologies.”

According to the statement, Obama wrote: “The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible.”

###

But will WE get an apology from the afghan president?

(CBS News) — Two U.S. troops have been shot to death and four more wounded by an Afghan solider who turned his gun on his allies in apparent anger over the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, an Afghan official tells CBS News.

A statement from the International Security Assistance Force – Afghanistan, the international coalition in the country, confirmed that two troops were killed in Eastern Afghanistan on Thursday by “an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform.”

ISAF does not typically give the nationality of casualties until family members have been notified, but the CBS News source in the Afghan government said those killed and injured in the attack in the Khogyani district of the eastern Ningarhar province along the border with Pakistan were Americans.

The source also said the shooting appeared to be motivated by the burning of Qurans at the sprawling U.S. Bagram air base, north of Kabul, but he did not provide additional details as to what led him to that conclusion.

(either we wipe that country clean of islamic assholes, or we get out. NOW)

(CBS News) — Prosecutors recently sentenced a Texas man, Manuel Barba, for trafficking a weapon connected to the murder of Immigration and Customs (ICE) Agent Jaime Zapata. Nobody was more astonished to learn of the case than Zapata’s parents, who didn’t know that Barba had been arrested or linked to their son’s murder.

“The family was obviously surprised to learn that there was a case involving a weapon linked to the Zapata incident,” attorney Trey Martinez told CBS News. Martinez represents Zapata’s parents and the surviving ICE agent in the assault, Victor Avila. “They were surprised they had never been contacted in the capacity as victims so they could give a response or some kind of reaction at the time of sentencing.”

Barba was sentenced to 100 months in prison on January 30th. When we asked why the Zapatas weren’t contacted, prosecutors in Houston told CBS News they only handled the weapons charges: conspiracy, false statements and exportation/receipt of firearms. Zapata’s actual murder “is being handled by another US Attorney’s office and… is separate and apart from the firearms case that was handled by our district,” said a spokeswoman. She added the firearms offenses “are crimes that do not involve victims in the legal sense of the word and therefore, notifications are not part of the legal process.”

In a related development, CBS News has obtained documents showing that Barba was under ATF surveillance for at least six months before a rifle he trafficked was used in Zapata’s murder. Zapata’s government vehicle was ambushed by suspected cartel thugs in Mexico Feb. 15, 2011.

Documents indicate ATF opened its case against Barba, entitled “Baytown Crew,” in June of 2010. During the investigation, court records state Barba recruited straw purchasers and “facilitated the purchase and exportation of at least 44 firearms” including assault rifles. On August 20, 2010 Barba took delivery of the WASR-10 semi-automatic rifle later used in Zapata’s murder, obliterated its serial number, and sent it to Mexico with nine others just like it. Nearly two months later, on Oct. 8, 2010, ATF agents recorded a phone call in which Barba “spoke about the final disposition of … firearms to Mexico and also about the obliterating of the serial numbers before they were trafficked.” Barba told straw purchasers the guns were destined for the Zeta drug cartel.

All Dead Mormons are Now Gay

Okay, whether you think this is a neat idea (I do) or it is an abomination, you do have to admit that the Mormon Church asked for this big time.

Causing a stir online today is a new websitethat invites users to posthumously convert Mormons to homosexuality.

The single-serving site is a rather candid knock at the common Mormon practice known as “vicarious baptism” or “proxy baptism,” which involves the baptizing of a living person on behalf of someone who has passed on.

LDS Church members have received significant criticism in the past for attempting to baptize deceased individuals who belonged to a different faith in life. Of particular contention are conversion ceremonies conducted on behalf of Holocaust victims.

Earlier this month the church was forced to apologize to the family of noted Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal, whose parents, it was revealed, had been baptized by proxy in January. Yesterday, a similar story involving iconic Holocaust victim Anne Frank appeared in the media.

The Church has since released a statement vowing to discipline “individual abusers” of the the controversial practice.

Democrats into denial!

(The Hill) — Oil speculators, not a lack of domestic drilling, are to blame for the nation’s rising gas prices, the top House Democrat argued Wednesday.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said unscrupulous Wall Street investors have artificially inflated prices at the pump, which are climbing toward $4 per gallon.

The California Democrat called on Congress to take “strong action” to rein in the allegedly excessive speculation, and accused Republicans of protecting Wall Street profits at the expense of consumers.

“Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street speculators and oil companies instead of the interests of working Americans by obstructing the agencies with the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws.”

The comments – arriving a day before President Obama is scheduled to address the issue of rising gas prices in Miami – represent just the latest shot in the perennial and largely partisan debate over the cause of price fluctuations in the oil and gasoline markets.

###

David Harsanyi: Shouldn’t Obama be taking credit for high gas prices?

This is the must-read op-ed of the day, in my opinion.

As we all know gas prices have shot up again in recent weeks, and the White House and its media sycophants are attributing the trend to everything from rising global demand, an allegedly recovering U.S. economy, turmoil in the Middle East, and of course “speculators” – among many other factors.

But as David Harsanyi writes, rising energy costs have been Obama’s explicitly stated agenda since before he was elected President. So with gas now pushing $4/gallon and beyond you’d think he and the Democrats might want to take some credit for their wonderful achievement.

Right?

This morning’s newspapers report an ominous development in the ObamaCare litigation, now pending in the U.S. Supreme Court:

The Court posted a seemingly minor but potentially portentous administrative change, which suggests it might postpone delivering a final ruling on the constitutionality of ObamaCare until the middle of 2016!

Specifically, the high Court increased the time it will devote to hearing oral arguments on whether the health care mandate is a tax for purposes of something called the Tax Anti-Injunction Act (26 U.S.C. § 7421(a)).

The historically lengthy oral arguments in the case, HHS v. Florida — now expanded by 30 minutes to an unprecedented six hours – are slated to take place late next month.  A formal ruling in the case is expected by early July.

But will it be the final ruling? That’s now less clear.

First enacted in 1867, the Tax Anti-Injunction Act sweepingly forbids any court from hearing any case in which any person attempts to prevent the assessment or collection of a tax. Once the tax has been assessed and collected, however, a court may hear a case on it.

The ObamaCare mandate is enforced by means of a penalty fine, collected by the IRS. With a few exceptions, this fine will be imposed on every citizen who doesn’t check a box on his tax return affirming that he has purchased government-controlled health insurance.

Is the IRS penalty a tax, or not? So far, lower federal courts have come down on both sides of this issue. And for complicated legal reasons, the Obama Administration has actually been taking both sides on it: in Congress, the President’s men say it’s not a tax; in court, they say it is.

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes.

“They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, the 78-year-old CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands,  certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice.

Washington Examiner:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney defended Warren Buffett from the criticism against the Buffett Rule levelled by Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., praising Buffett’s philanthropy and defending his “right” to engage in political advocacy.

“I think Mr. Buffett, who is widely regarded for his success in business as well as in philanthropy, has been quite outspoken, as is his right, on what he believes is an issue of tax fairness,” Carney said during today’s press briefing. “He simply believes, as one of the wealthiest men in the world, that he should not be paying an effective tax rate lower than his secretary.”

Christie said Wednesday that Buffett should “cut a check and shut up” rather than advocate a tax increase for all the wealthy.

Carney dismissed Christie’s comment as a joke. “[T]hat’s a quip that tries to draw attention away from what is a very serious issue, which is the need to have a tax code that’s fair and that helps the American people as they recover from this recession,” he responded when asked if he agrees with Christie’s suggestion.  “So, quips aside, we think the Buffett Rule is absolutely an important principle to apply to individual tax reform.”

(seems like Gov. Christie pissed off obama and his cronies?)
