Time to Legalize Marijuana

Yes, I am of the opinion, that it is time for marijuana to be legalized.

A 20-year, federally funded study conducted jointly by researchers at UCSF and UAB found that smoking marijuana once a week, or even once a day in some instances, did no long-term damage to the lungs.

The study, published today in the the Journal of the American Medical Association, tracked 5,000 individuals across 20 years, and compared their usage of marijuana and tobacco to their health stats.

Cigarette smokers saw a considerable loss in lung function over time, but participants who smokes marijuana as often as once a day for seven years saw no change.

Additionally, no harmful effects were recorded in individuals who smoked marijuana occasionally for longer.

According to the study’s authors, one possible explanation for the results may be THC — the active ingredient in marijuana. The compound is known to combat inflammation, and may be responsible for offsetting irritants that cause lung problems.

Dr. Stefan Kertesz, the study’s co-author, also posits that an unintended side-effect of marijuana usage is the strengthening lung tissue as a result of breathing deeply during inhalation.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, researchers found that pot smoking might actually improve lung function. “At levels of marijuana exposure commonly seen in Americans, occasional marijuana use was associated with increases in lung air flow rates and increases in lung capacity,” Kertesz said.

He did note that the increase was not enough to “make you feel better,” but, then again, if you’re smoking marijuana, chances are you’re already feeling pretty great.

(at the least, decriminalize marijuana and let all those in prison now for marijuana related crimes be released)

Department of Homeland Security to spy on American journalists and bloggers

Funny how only Russia Today and the right wing blogosphere seem to be reporting this. How long before they shut down and/or jail writers who don’t tow the Obama Regime party line?

(remember, Hitler and all other dictators and despots started with the free press)

A spokesman for the Parents Television Council (PTC) details what is at stake as the issue of broadcast indecency goes to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday.

According to PTC President Tim Winter, “This case will determine whether the indecency statute will be reduced to a polite fiction that can be ignored at the expense of American children and families.” Public policy director Dan Isett gives more details.

“Simply put, the court is most likely going to rule on the constitutionality of continued federal broadcast decency rules,” he explains. “So, put another way, the court is going to determine whether or not broadcast television at the times of day when children are most likely to be watching can still be free of legal indecency.”

Broadcasters already have the right to transmit indecent material after 10:00 pm. The court will also rule on the Federal Communications Commission’s right to define decency and issue decisions and fines.

“For decades, broadcasters didn’t have any issue with abiding by common sense decency rules, and now they say that somehow their free speech is being violated, despite the fact that they already have the ability to air indecent content when most children are going to be in bed and out of harm’s way,” Isett adds.

Just to remind you: Obama and his liberal minions are shredding our constitution, our rights and our freedom. Look for the day we will be forced to face Mecca!

Congressman Allen West tells Newsmax that President Barack Obama has “complete contempt” for Congress and is starting to believe that he has an “imperial presidency.”

The Florida Republican says Newt Gingrich is the “smartest” GOP candidate but thinks any of the Republican hopefuls can beat Obama in what undoubtedly will be a “brutal bloodbath.”

West also asserts that sanctions will not succeed in deterring Iran’s belligerency and warns that the United States should not cut the defense budget to make the military the “bill-payer” for Washington’s failure to rein in spending.

West, who was elected in 2010, is a member of the House Tea Party Caucus. He is also an Army veteran who served for more than 20 years, with postings in several combat zones, and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

President Obama has said he is hopeful for an improved economy in 2012. In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, West was asked whether Americans should feel that way.

“No, they shouldn’t,” West declares. “President Obama is just going to sit back and hope that things fall into his lap.

The following is brought to you by that false religion of peace:

A man thought to be an Islamic extremist is believed to have shot the windows out of at least two businesses in Alabama City early Sunday to lure police officers to the area and engage them in a shootout.

Luis Ibarra-Hernandez, 21, from Albertville, was charged today with attempted murder, according to a news release from the Gadsden Police Department.

“After the man was taken into custody, he reported that he knew he must do something extreme to draw attention to Islam and himself, so he planned to shoot police officers,” Gadsden Police Capt. Regina May said.

Gadsden police officers responded to alarm calls for glass breakage after doors were shot out about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at AutoZone and Rainbow Food Mart near the intersection of 27th Street and West Meighan Boulevard.

While investigating the broken doors and determining they were shot out, officers heard gunfire and spotted a man near the old CVS building.

The man knew he had been seen and ran toward the Cathedral of Praise Church parking lot, then started firing rounds at the officers.

The man continued to run through several blocks and at one point was in the Dwight Baptist Church parking lot. Shots were fired over about six blocks, and at least eight officers were shot at, before officers talked the man into dropping his weapon.

These are people who know that as long as king and queen obama are in the white house, they have a secure business selling high priced clothes and getting paid in taxpayer dollars!

The clothing industry’s top 22 designers favored by the nation’s first lady of fashion, Michelle Obama, are coming together to help the Obama-Biden campaign raise money and put a unique look on the 2012 effort.

Called “Runway to Win,” the “special pieces” that will be unveiled this week on the campaign’s www.runwaytowin.com site will be from designers like Jason Wu, who drew up the first lady’s eye-popping ivory-colored 2009 Inauguration gown, and Tory Burch, whose $495 leather and chain boots the first lady wore picking pumpkins right before Halloween 2010.

“Runway to Win is a collaborative effort of 22 top American designers who have created special pieces, including T-shirts, tote bags, scarves, a wristlet, in support of the president’s re-election campaign,” said Marti Adams, the Obama-Biden campaign’s director of event communications. “The online store is scheduled to launch on January 12. All proceeds from sales will go to Obama Victory Fund.”

Some reports say that Vogue editor and fashion queen Anna Wintour helped pick the designers for the effort.

Funny as hell! Companies paying fines for not using something that does not yet exist! Our Obama screwed-up government at work!

In the name of what else — global warming.

(NY Times) — When the companies that supply motor fuel close the books on 2011, they will pay about $6.8 million in penalties to the Treasury because they failed to mix a special type of biofuel into their gasoline and diesel as required by law.

But there was none to be had. Outside a handful of laboratories and workshops, the ingredient, cellulosic biofuel, does not exist.

In 2012, the oil companies expect to pay even higher penalties for failing to blend in the fuel, which is made from wood chips or the inedible parts of plants like corncobs. Refiners were required to blend 6.6 million gallons into gasoline and diesel in 2011 and face a quota of 8.65 million gallons this year.

“It belies logic,” Charles T. Drevna, the president of the National Petrochemicals and Refiners Association, said of the 2011 quota. And raising the quota for 2012 when there is no production makes even less sense, he said.

Penalizing the fuel suppliers demonstrates what happens when the federal government really, really wants something that technology is not ready to provide. In fact, while it may seem harsh that the Environmental Protection Agency is penalizing them for failing to do the impossible, the agency is being lenient by the standards of the law, the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act.

The law, aimed at reducing the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, its reliance on oil imported from hostile places and the export of dollars to pay for it, includes provisions to increase the efficiency of vehicles as well as incorporate renewable energy sources into gasoline and diesel.
