Whether you’re trying to survive an intensive college schedule or just want to seem smarter in front of your friends, you can do a lot of things to both look and be smarter. Here are ten simple tricks for boosting your real (and perceived) brain power.

10. Read Faster and Better

Obviously, one of the best ways to boost your intelligence is to read more! You can read faster (and thus consume more knowledge) by getting your speech mechanism out of the equation. So give your mouth something to do, like eating, humming, or chewing gum to get through that stuff quickly. Then, take some time to absorb and reflect on what you read to keep it in your memory. Whether it’s War and Peace or just the Wikipedia Random button, you’ll be surprised by how much more you learn when you’re reading not just fast, but well. Photo by Zitona.

9. Speak Up (and Do It With Expression)

The more you can contribute to a conversation, a meeting, or other discourse, the smarter you’ll come off. Even if it means admitting ignorance or asking questions, you’ll still look better than if you stay silent—and you might actually learn something in the process. Expressive speech is key: you can boost your credibility a lot by simply making sure you speak with an engaging tone. So This Is What “God D*mn America” Looks Like

Four years ago, our media overlords assured us that President Empty Chair was really Candidate Empty Pew — a parishioner who sat for 20 years in Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s nutty, hate-mongering church and never heard a single word.

“God bless America? No, no, no! God d*mn America!” thundered Reverend Wright, and just in case you missed the delicate subtleties of his Black Liberation Theology, he helpfully noted that 9/11 was “America’s chickens” “coming home to roost.”

Well, America’s chickens are surely roosting overtime now. Surveying the wreckage of the country formerly known as the leader of the free world, you may be forgiven for suspecting that Obama did indeed overhear a sermon or two during his loyal decades in Wright’s Trinity Church. Wright preached against “middle-classness,” and hey, Obama’s certainly taken care of that! In fact, even master debater Joe Biden admits that the middle class has been “buried” in the last four years.

Did you know that Reverend Wright lovingly published Hamas editorials in his church’s newsletter? There, ladies and gentlemen, is Obama’s foreign policy in a nutshell. As for the Lifetime Achievement Award that Wright bestowed upon Louis Farrakhan, I fully expect that in a second Obama term, we’ll all be graced with Secretary of State Farrakhan. And if that won’t pass congressional muster, Obama can simply appoint Farrakhan our czar.

Never mind The Audacity of Hope, the book title that Obama swiped from a Reverend Wright sermon. Let’s spotlight the audacity of the media for de-materializing the screeching elephant in the national room that was Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Wisconsin School Bus Driver Fired After Reportedly Telling Student He Should Have Been Aborted Over Family’s Romney Sign | TheBlaze.com ….

A Wisconsin school bus driver has been fired after reportedly telling a 12-year-old boy he should have been aborted because his family had a Mitt Romney yard sign.

Bus company Durham School Services said in a statement that the driver in New Berlin, Wis. “engaged in a political debate with students” on Monday and “made an inappropriate remark to a child.”

“Durham immediately removed the driver from service pending an investigation, which resulted in the termination of the driver,” the statement said.

WISN-TV cited blog Freedom Eden, which said the 78-year-old driver had “been harassing the boy, making rude comments to him related to politics.” When the boy responded that President Barack Obama supports abortion, the driver allegedly replied, “Maybe your mom should have chosen abortion for you.”

Security officer: Taliban is inside the State Department:

(ABC News) In a heated and dramatic congressional hearing today, witnesses who served with the U.S. diplomatic corps in Libya and pushed for a stronger security presence repeatedly faulted the State Department for standing in their way – one even referring to the State Department officials he described as obstructionist as if they were Taliban terrorists.

The former regional security officer in Libya, Eric Nordstrom, recalled talking to a regional director and asking for twelve security agents.

“His response to that was, ‘You are asking for the sun, moon and the stars.’ And my response to him – his name was Jim – ‘Jim, you know what makes most frustrating about this assignment? It is not the hardships, it is not the gunfire, it is not the threats. It is dealing and fighting against the people, programs and personnel who are supposed to be supporting me. Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said Thursday that the “entire reason” the terrorist attack at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans has “become the political topic it is” is because Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan talk about the attack.

STEPHANIE CUTTER: In terms of the politicization of this — you know, we are here at a debate, and I hope we get to talk about the debate — but the entire reason this has become the political topic it is, is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. It’s a big part of their stump speech. And it’s reckless and irresponsible what they’re doing.

BROOKE BALDWIN: But, Stephanie, this is national security. As we witnessed this revolution last year, we covered it–

CUTTER: It is absolutely national security–

BALDWIN: –it is absolutely pertinent. People in the American public absolutely have a right to get answers.

Cutter’s remarks drew immediate criticism from across the political spectrum. But the Obama spox quickly doubled down on Twitter, replying to a Buzzfeed researcher, “Romney has politicized Libya w/no plans of his own. POTUS’ priorities are getting facts & bringing terrorists to justice.”
