Sleepy New Yorkers beware: Putting your feet up on a subway seat during a late-night train ride can land you behind bars.
The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/ygZ61w ) that police arrested 1,600 people last year for violating a 7-year-old law that makes it a crime to put your feet up on the subway or sprawl out over more than one seat, even if the train is empty.
Another 6,000 people escaped arrest but got hit with a $50 fine.
The practice of tossing people in jail for an etiquette infraction has outraged some lawyers, who say it is overly harsh.
Police Department spokesman Paul Browne says rigorous enforcement makes the subway system safer.
He says many of those subway rule-breakers turn out to be wanted felons.
In a recent decision, a Brooklyn judge, Noach Dear, dismissed the case of a man cited for taking up more than one seat on an A train at 3:10 a.m. on Dec. 24. “There appears to be a disconnect between the code’s goals and its enforcement,” Judge Dear wrote in his decision. He said that he and other Brooklyn judges had found these arrests happened “late at night or early in the morning when subways are generally at their least crowded levels.”

A Miami urologist has been accused of mangling a patient’s penis so badly it had to be amputated – and it is not the first time.
Dr Paul Perito, 50, is once again facing a lawsuit after amputating a man’s penis following a series of botched operations.
The physician is already fighting an ongoing lawsuit by another patient who also claims to have lost his penis at the doctor’s hands.
The father has in the past also been charged with organised fraud and racketeering linked to PlayPen strip club in which he was a partner, reports the Miami New Times.
The latest lawsuit comes from a man, known only as Hank, who was in jail for drink-driving when he developed blisters on his penis three years ago.
This led to a series of botched operations, resulting in him having his penis amputated, according to the New Times.
The doctor who he says is most responsible for robbing him of his manhood is Dr Perito.
The 51-year-old Floridan has filed a lawsuit against the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) and six doctors, including Perito.
After four penis surgeries with increasingly catastrophic results. Hank had to undergo a ‘partial penectomy’.
‘When I woke up, I had a hose run up inside me, and everything else was cut off — completely amputated,’ Hank told the New Times close to tears.
Perito has denied any negligence in Hank’s treatment, blaming the patient’s ‘actions or omissions’, reports the New Times.

Hank had spent two years at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution when he developed the blisters and was sent to South Miami’s Larkin Community Hospital, where Perito examined him in June 2009.
Hank told the New Times that the urologist ‘debrided’ the organ – stripping it of contaminated tissue – and then packed it with gauze and stitched it up.
He attached three strings to pull the packing out, like a tampon, within five days, reports the New Times.
In an apparent bid by the DOC to cut costs, Hank was sent from Larkin to Kendall Regional Medical Center where he claims doctors were confused by Perito’s method and were unable to reach him.

The gauze was not removed and it was not until nearly three weeks later, on July 17, after Hank’s penis became infected a Kendall urologist treated him for gangrene.
Within the next three weeks, Hank endured two more operations.
On August 14, Perito finally inspected what was left of his handiwork, and three days later Hank had the amputation.
Asked by the New Times if he still experiences sexual urges, Hank breaks down.
‘Sometimes I have dreams. But I’m in so much pain, sex is the last thing on my mind. I don’t think they have enough money to pay me for what they’ve done to me.
‘They can never replace it. They can’t give me a rubber leg. I don’t know what they’d put there.’
By my unofficial and admittedly incomplete count, there were nearly as many tweets sent about the questions and commentators during the ABC New Hampshire GOP Debate as there were about the candidates’ answers. One candidly blunt tweet was, “Does Diane Sawyer know these debates are not about her?”
Not completely unexpectedly, ABC News spent the vast majority of the debate asking questions about the hard-core left’s favorite topics and encouraging dissension and attacks among the Republican candidates. Diane Sawyer, George Stephanopoulos and Josh McElveen spent more time on gay marriage and gay adoption than on energy policy or jobs.
The answers were relatively unimportant because ABC News was determined to be in the spotlight at the expense of extracting relevant information and informing voters. If ABC News is so Hell-bent on being irrelevant, then the GOP should oblige and just skip their future debates.
This is my unofficial take on the debate questions. I tweeted a lot and didn’t take exact notes, and for those reasons, the wording may be off a little. These are; however, the true gist of the questions:
Diane: Senator Santorum, Congressman Paul called you a Poopy Head and a bedwetter. Would you like to call him some names now on national TV?
George: Governor Romney, Senator Santorum is an extremist because he holds the same position on gay marriage as President Barack Obama, may he reign forever. In your own words, tell us why Senator Santorum is crazy.
Josh Whats-His-Name: While I impress you with my 1960s radio DJ voice, Senator Santorum, tell me why you hate gay people? Oh and then tell me why you hate any other Republican candidate of your choice. Do you think any of your GOP rivals might be secretly gay?

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said President Obama should use the “do-nothing Congress” as a punching bag on the campaign trail.

Six people were arrested during a march staged by Occupy Oakland protesters to protest what they called previous police mistreatment of demonstrators.
The showdown Saturday night happened at the corner of Ninth and Washington streets, just blocks from Oakland police headquarters and the scene of an Oct. 25 clash in which protesters had thrown paint at riot officers, prompting police to fire tear gas.
The poor dears were mostly peaceful, although they did march under a huge “F*ck the Police” banner, started a bonfire in front of the police stattion, vandalized a media van, broke windows, and threw bottles at riot police. One of them was caught carrying a quarter stick of dynamite…
Saturday night’s arrests took place during a march from Frank Ogawa Plaza outside Oakland City Hall to the Oakland Police Department. The event began peacefully as several dozen protesters began walking along Broadway holding a banner reading “F- the police.”

On Saturday night, protesters had hoped to march to Oakland police headquarters, but rows of officers stood outside the entrances, according to an online stream of the incident.
As they approached the police station, officers in riot helmets stopped marchers along Washington Street near Seventh Street, where protesters started a bonfire and some threw bottles at officers from the back of the crowd. During the protest, protesters spray-painted a letter “A” with a circle around it — the symbol for anarchy — on a media van, broke windows at a Starbucks coffee shop and on patrol cars, authorities said.
The police chased protesters down and made six arrests on a variety of offenses - including assaulting officers, resisting arrest and vandalism.

Never mind the fact that six million people left the work force since Obama took office, artificially lowering the unemployment rate. This is the hidden number that the government does not want to make public. For sure Obama and his minions are doing their best to ignore this figure.
(CNSNews.com) – The 8.5 percent unemployment rate announced on Friday is in line with the rate the Obama administration forecast if the $825-billion stimulus package did not pass – it was signed into law in February 2009 and, besides funding myriad government projects and more public employees, was supposed to keep unemployment below 8 percent.
Without the stimulus, unemployment was projected to rise to 8.8 percent by the fourth quarter of 2010, according to a report by Christina Romer, then the chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisors, and Jared Bernstein, then the chief economist for Vice President Joe Biden.
“In the absence of stimulus, the economy could lose another 3 to 4 million more [jobs],” said the January 2009 report by the Obama administration. “Thus, we are working to counter a potential total job loss of at least 5 million. As Figure 1 shows, even with the large prototypical package, the unemployment rate in 2010Q4 is predicted to be approximately 7.0%, which is well below the approximately 8.8% that would result in the absence of a plan.”
The 8.5 percent is the lowest rate since February 2009, when President Barack Obama took office in January with a 7.8 percent unemployment rate. However, the unemployment rate has steadily risen since the president was in office.

Department of Education Spokesman Jim Bradshaw, while acknowledging receiving questions about the meeting from CNSNews.com, failed to respond to those questions after they were put to him via both phone and email messages on Thursday and Friday of this week.
At the meeting, according to the Department of Labor’s website, Duncan told the illegal aliens about the administration’s “efforts to assist students who are undocumented” through the Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act—the DREAM Act. Solis also spoke to the illegal aliens about the DREAM Act.
