UN to review report praising Gaddafi human rights

This is just plain funny! And shows you just why the UN is a whack job organization and the USA really should not only get out of the UN, but throw the entire operation out of our country!

(JPost) — The UN is preparing to adopt a report praising the human rights record of the of former government of deposed Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, in a move a UN monitoring NGO said would bring embarrassment to international rights organization.

The report – which is scheduled for review in March’s session of the Human Rights Council – is the outcome of a session in 2010, before the eruption of mass protests and an armed rebellion that pushed Gaddafi from his throne in October, 2011, after 42 years in power.

The report will be examined by the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), a branch of the United Nations Human Rights Council which monitors the human rights records of all 193 UN member states.

The report of on the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya was originally meant to be adopted last year, but has been postponed repeatedly, according to UN Watch.

Libya at the time welcomed the report, stating on record: “The Libyan Arab Jamahiriya believed that the promotion and protection of human rights was one of the most important factors for the progress and development of the people.”

In the report, the Gaddafi regime touted “its pioneering experience in the field of wealth distribution and labor rights.”

Included in the UPR report are member state rights recommendations for the Gaddafi regime, including on how to deal with refugees in the country, and abolishing the death penalty.

2012 Independent Spirit Awards host Seth Rogen shows other awards show hosts (you know who you are) how it’s done, with a killer 15 minute monologue that takes down movies, movie stars, movie awards, and even saves room for a Chris Brown jab (skip to 5:23) — all with the curse words left refreshingly unbleeped.

Stuff like this I like, just to keep my funny bone alive!

Beltway Confidential:

White House Press secretary Jay Carney today reminded reporters that prior to President Obama’s term in office, the Bush administration was responsible for the tumultuous lengthy engagement in Afghanistan.

“The president made clear when he was a candidate for this office and when he took this office, that unfortunately prior to his taking office, because of the focus on Iraq, and the U.S. efforts there, that the original war, if you will, in Afghanistan had been neglected, the strategy there was unclear, and that it was not properly resourced,” said Carney, adding that the U.S. goals in Afghanistan would be met with President Obama’s “clear eyed” policy.

(must be fun for this guy, to always be coming up with new untruths. And his face must hurt since he has to hit himself for saying shit like this)

Washington Examiner:

The voting public apparently agrees that nothing in life is free, especially health care. A new Rasmussen poll finds that 51 percent oppose free universal health care and a whopping 63 percent reject it if required to change their current insurance coverage to a free government plan.

In a survey of 1,000 likely voters, Rasmussen waded into the current political debate over free health care and issues like contraception for women, finding that most don’t want freebies.

He found that only 39 percent favor free health care for all Americans, with 51 percent opposed to universal free health care.

(hahahah…even giving it away does not help the numbers)

(WASHINGTON, D.C, 2/27/12) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on the Obama administration to investigate the reported use of White House funds for the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) controversial campaign of spying on Muslims without warrants or evidence of wrongdoing.

According to The Associated Press:

“Millions of dollars in White House money has helped pay for New York Police Department programs that put entire American Muslim neighborhoods under surveillance. …

“The disclosure that the White House is at least partially paying for the NYPD’s wholesale surveillance of places where Muslims eat, shop, work and pray complicates efforts by the Obama administration to stay out of the fray over New York’s controversial counterterrorism programs. The administration has championed outreach to American Muslims and has said law enforcement should not put entire communities under suspicion.”

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization called on White House officials to conduct a full investigation to determine whether the funds were used to conduct the NYPD’s systematic campaign of religious and ethnic profiling that has been condemned by CAIR and many other civil liberties groups.

CAIR also asked administration officials to take “appropriate measures” to ensure that White House funds are not misused in the future to promote similar profiling campaigns.

Politico:

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Council on American-Islamic Relations are separately calling for investigations into White House funding of a domestic spying program launched by the New York Police Department against Muslim-Americans.

The AP reported Monday that White House funds managed by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program went to buy equipment and vehicles for a domestic surveillance program designed to infiltrate Muslim groups.

“We are deeply concerned that federal resources may have been used and spying information stored in violation of federal regulations that protect Americans’ private and constitutional rights against law enforcement overreach. It’s not just Mayor Bloomberg who needs to investigate the NYPD’s improper activities, it’s now the federal government as well,” Hina Shamsi, director of the ACLU’s National Security Project said in a statement.

“The NYPD is spying on countless innocent Muslims up and down the eastern seaboard, but who is watching the NYPD,” said New York Civil Liberties Union executive director Donna Lieberman said. The NYCLU joined the ALCU in calling for the probe.

(see how the left is sleeping with the islamics? don’t support the aclu)

LifeNews:

Yesterday a State Department press release announced the delegation they would be sending to the the 56th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women beginning next week at UN headquarters in New York and running two weeks.

The two co-leaders of the delegation are Susan Rice, US Ambassador to the United Nations and Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues. Verveer, a former White House staffer to Hillary Clinton and staunch abortion rights advocate, was appointed to this post after President Obama created it in March 2009. Pro-life leaders believe the department was created in large part to advance abortion rights globally.

In 2009 UN Ambassador Susan Rice went on record (although without using the word abortion) in a speech at Howard University signaling a substantive policy shift from the Bush Administration on abortion by equating abortion with “reproductive health.”  C-FAM reported on this.

(hmmm..again, obama is loving abortion)

(Telegraph) — A total of 231 nominees are up for the Nobel Peace Prize this year, the Nobel Institute said on Monday, with Bill Clinton, Helmut Kohl, the EU and US soldier and WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning known to be on the list.

“As always, there are the usual ‘nominees’ and some newcomers, some famous and some unknowns, hailing from the four corners of the world,” the head of the Nobel Institute, Geir Lundestad, told AFP.

With 188 individuals and 43 organisations, the number of candidates comes close to last year’s record of 241, when the award went to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian activist Leymah Gbowee, and Yemeni “Arab Spring” activist Tawakkol Karman.

Thousands of people are eligible to submit nominations, including members of parliaments and governments worldwide, university professors, past laureates and members of several international institutes, who had until February 1 to propose candidates.

Yet others include US political scientist Gene Sharp, known for his theory of non-violent resistance which inspired some of the key figures behind the Arab Spring, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki who was brought to power in 2011 by the revolution in his country, and television news channel Al-Jazeera.

(geesh, the left loves all this I am sure. Bet Nobel is spinning in his grave right now, again)

And here is Obama screwing our military yet again! The man, like all his leftist buddies, wants to end our military at all costs!

Washington Free Beacon:

The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.

The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.

The proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, are part of the Pentagon’s $487 billion cut in spending. It seeks to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget, and $12.9 billion by 2017.

Many in Congress are opposing the proposed changes, which would require the passage of new legislation before being put in place.

Administration officials told Congress that one goal of the increased fees is to force military retirees to reduce their involvement in Tricare and eventually opt out of the program in favor of alternatives established by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.
