Words of Wisdom-Barry Goldwater

“I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is “needed” before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents “interests, ” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.” - Barry Goldwater

Shamelessly stolen, um I mean borrowed from The Classical Liberal, which by the way isa very fine site. Do not let the name fool you.

The Hill

A bipartisan group of 180 House members — consisting of about 40 percent of the House — has reintroduced a bill to end the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices that was imposed under President Obama’s healthcare law.

That tax took effect at the start of 2013, and is expected to raise a few billion dollars a year in tax receipts for the government, and $30 billion over 10 years. But opponents of the tax say it will hinder innovation and job creation in the medical device industry.

“Placing a new tax on the backs of U.S. medical innovators and entrepreneurs who employ more than 400,000 Americans is not a prescription for economic growth or job creation,” said Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), who sponsored the bill. “In fact, companies have already laid off thousands of employees as a result of this onerous new tax, and more jobs will be lost now that this tax is in effect.

“It’s not only costing our country jobs and deterring innovation, but more importantly, it will reduce patient access to cutting edge medical products and treatments that save lives.”

Paulsen introduced a similar bill in the last Congress. The latest version would repeal the tax without offsetting spending cuts.

Last year, the House Ways & Means Committee amended his bill to provide for an offset, something that could happen again in the new Congress. Ways & Means attached language that would pay for ending the tax by requiring the government to recapture all overpayments of health insurance subsidies provided in the healthcare law. Under current law, only some of these overpayments must be returned to the government.

Chris Crane is the president of the Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) union council 118. Testifying today before the House Judiciary Committee, he leveled withering criticism at the lawless behavior of the Obama administration, Eric Holder, and Janet Napolitano.

In particular, he stated that ICE is “now guided in large part by the influences of powerful special interest groups that advocate on behalf of illegal aliens“:

Crane further goes on to drop a bombshell:

These influences have in large part eroded the order, stability and effectiveness of the agency, creating confusion among all ICE employees. For the last four years it has been a roller coaster for ICE officers with regard to who they can or cannot arrest, and which federal laws they will be permitted to enforce. Most of these directives restricting enforcement are given only verbally to prevent written evidence from reaching the public.

Most Americans would be surprised to know that immigration agents are regularly restricted from enforcing the two most fundamental sections of United States immigration law…”

Crane’s testimony is revealing in many ways, as he sites several disturbing examples on how ICE agents are demoralized and how they have been hamstrung due to the influence of amnesty advocates inside and outside the Obama administration.

Regime: No More Info on Drone Strikes Against American Citizens

Want to know more about the Obama Regime’s plans to use drones to kill Americans without due process, potentially on US soil? Too bad. The “mainstream” media doesn’t find the topic interesting, and in any case the most transparent administration ever is officially not talking. To quote White House spokesweenie Jay Carney:

“This is not an open-ended process. This is a specific and unique accommodation in this circumstance. The fact is, when it comes to public disclosure, we have been — not with the kind of attention that’s been given it this week — but we have been publicly discussing these matters at the highest levels of government for the very reason that I’ve given, which is the President understands that these are core issues about how we conduct ourselves in war, how the President of the United States — any President — balances his constitutional obligation to protect America and American citizens, and his obligation to do so in a manner that is lawful under the Constitution and reflects our values.”

To paraphrase the duckspeak, the non–open-ended process of sharing any information at all with the public on which of us may be extrajudicially executed has closed. But if missiles start raining down on a Tea Party gathering, you’ll know whose tax dollars paid for them.
