Dome Keeper accomplishes a lot with the most meager components. This unassuming new roguelite alternates basic mining/digger gameplay with stressful turret combat against hordes of alien attackers, all wrapped up in an easy-to-understand time management structure. It’s the type of game that will seductively chew through an hour before triggering a single glance at the clock, prompting a mesmerizing trance-like state helped along by its low-bit aesthetics and terrific atmosphere. If it were a few dollars less at retail, Dome Keeper would be a stronger recommendation, but it presently stands as a remarkable achievement in constrained game design (and hopefully it gets bigger from here).
