Ingraham: A tale of two futures

Last Beatles Concert

August 29, 1966

The Beatles give their last concert. It was held in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park. With a capacity of 42,500, only 25,000 tickets were sold at between $4.50 and $6.50 per ticket. Between the Beatles’ take of about $90,000, the city of San Francisco getting 15% of paid admissions, and other expenses the concert was a loss for the promoters.
Their last public performance would be an unannounced live appearance in January 1969 on the rooftop of the Apple building.

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some trans-Atlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us with a blow? Never!

All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined with a Bonaparte at their head and disposing of all the treasure of the earth, our own excepted, could not by force make a track on the Blue Ridge or take a drink from the Ohio in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up from amongst us. It cannot come from abroad.

If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we must live through all times, or die by suicide.”

– Abraham Lincoln

“Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.”

– L. Neil Smith

“The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.”

– James Earl Jones

The US, Taiwan, and China are going at it over the South China Sea. After US sailed warships through the Taiwan Strait, China launched a series of military drills and missile tests, including an aircraft carrier killer missile. The US doesn’t seem worried. The Philippines says it would turn to the US if there were a confrontation with China over a South China Sea dispute for the Scarborough Shoal. Activision censored the trailer for a new game Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War because of footage of the Tiananmen protests. And mandatory coronavirus vaccine tests on state workers plus an insane coronavirus lockdown for the Uyghurs in Urumqi, Xinjiang. That and more on this week’s China news headlines.
