1862 – American Indian Wars: The Dakota War of 1862 begins in Minnesota as Lakota warriors attack white settlements along the Minnesota River. 500-800 white settlers are killed by Lakota raiders. You usually don’t picture Minnesota as part of the Indian wars, but it was.
