Not everyone cares about you

Police in Portland peppered protesters with tear gas on Monday as they assembled outside of a police station, following a weekend of ongoing demonstrations against police racism and in favor of defunding the police. Their actions continue a history of Portland police using tear gas on demonstrators tracing as far back as May. Portland made headlines last month after federal law enforcement began detaining protesters, even though it was unclear if all of those detained had been involved in illegal activity.

Protesters and activists alike are fearful for the long-term effects of being exposed to chemical weapons. As the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality noted previously, there is no scientific precedent for the long-term exposure of tear gas on humans, as it is not meant to be used often. And the amount of the caustic gas, reportedly the variant known as CS gas (which one Portland police official insisted was different than tear gas), sprayed in downtown Portland is similarly unusual — nearly every night since the week of George Floyd’s death on May 25, tear gas has coated the sidewalks and drains.

Police from across the Los Angeles region announced Wednesday the arrests of dozens of people on arson, burglary and looting charges stemming from the unrest of late May and early June that gripped cities including Long Beach, Santa Monica and L.A.

Officials said the arrests were part of an ongoing effort among local, state and federal agencies to hold accountable individuals and organized criminal groups that took advantage of mass protests against police brutality to burglarize stores and cause mayhem.

Last week we brought you the story of Nichelle Holmes, a Deputy District Attorney in California who made social media posts proclaiming “We want more than a citation for vandalism” for the couple who painted over a Black Lives Matter mural in her jurisdiction. The office has now charged the couple with a “hate crime.”

Holmes’ boss, Diana Becton, is in her first term as elected District Attorney, one of a number of district attorneys heavily supported by lefty billionaire George Soros. Sources tell RedState that as soon as Becton took over she implemented major changes in the way the office was run and in the way crimes were charged and how aggressively cases were prosecuted. One recent change, which I’ll address further in a moment, has to do with charging people for “looting,” which is basically stealing during a state of emergency (i.e., protests or riots).

I’m so old, I remember when the media was alllllllllll about the rioting and looting because justice and George Floyd. But now that it’s showing up in the polling, the media isn’t so sure. Forget about the people who have been killed, the businesses, homes and livelihoods ruined, it’s about the polls.

Don Lemon wants you to know that the rioting and violence has to stop because it’s helping Trump’s poll numbers and man that’s not good.

As a conservative Californian (native and proud of it!), I’m often told that efforts to turn the state around or turn it red are a waste of time, and that there’s no use because too many of my fellow Californians are liberal and dense. My usual reply is that there are more conservatives and Trump supporters here than anyone would believe but that the cost of vocalizing that opinion is so high – one could lose their job immediately – that we don’t dare speak up.

The truth of that was hammered home Sunday when a peaceful caravan of Trump supporters conducted a drive-thru rally to support the President on Ventura Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley. Someone (reported to be a black male, per law enforcement sources), shot at the group from his apartment overlooking Ventura Boulevard then barricaded himself inside.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — As they prepare for more planned protests on Friday, authorities are vowing to stop and prosecute the people behind the unrest that took place in Downtown Sacramento on Thursday night after demonstrations over the police shooting of Wisconsin man Jacob Blake.

Crews were boarding up windows and cleaning up broken glass outside the Sacramento County district attorney’s office overnight.

Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert had harsh words for the group who appeared to be behind the destruction.

“The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office was targeted last night by a domestic terrorist and anarchist organization – Sacramento Antifa. This attack was planned,” Schubert wrote in a statement on Friday.

The US empire is dying, and there is nothing that any of us can do to stop it. Fortunately, empires are created, live and die according to certain historical patterns, and for similar motivations, so we can better prepare ourselves for what comes next by understanding these patterns, generalized here for brevity. The current empire follows the same patterns, accelerated in time somewhat in this case, although generally these phases take hundreds of years to consummate.
